Sending my 3861 in for warranty repair, what should I expect?

So my 3861 is a little under 2 years old, and the crown actually jams when I'm winding, also makes this awful metal on metal scraping sound about 3 or 4 turns before I finish winding it.

It's been doing this for a while now, but I just kind of ignored it since the watch runs normally otherwise. However, lately it's gotten worse, so I've decided to get it repaired under warranty.

I suspect the issue is probably lack of lubrication in the winding stem, or something similar, but what I'm wondering is what should I expect from a warranty service?

Also, is there anything I should do prior to dropping the watch off, and should I make any sort of requests to Omega?

Thanks guys.

My guess is a complete overhaul, I sent 3861 in 05 '23 for the bushing issue and got it back 3 weeks later (EU).

Take pictures of the condition of the case to avoid discussions about scratches and so on.

Strongly endorse the suggestion of taking lots of pics before—that’s excellent advice.

Note, too, that if the bracelet/strap isn’t having any issues and doesn’t need refinishing, you don’t have to send it with the watch. (Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but this is my understanding.) So you (or your AD) can remove that prior to mailing and eliminate any risk of them scratching that or doing unwanted restoration work on it.

Agree that the watch will likely receive a full service—which is a good thing—though in my experience here in the States (which is not to diminish or question YY77’s in the EU), 3 weeks is pretty unlikely: more like 8 to 12. But it’s been a year or two for me, so perhaps the processes have sped up.

Omega/SWATCH will provide a private login link where you can track your watch’s progress through the service pipeline. Don’t stress if it takes a while for this to happen and if updates are slow to come. And then one day—when you’re not quite expecting it—you’ll get a shipping alert telling you that your watch is going to arrive via signature-required delivery the next day. So, be ready to call off work to be home to receive it! 😀 If you’re sending it in via your AD/OB, then presumably they will receive it for you and will notify you to come get it at your convenience.

This is all just based on my personal experience: I don’t assume it’s universally true.

You can request that the watch not be refinished/polished, but I feel like folks here have had mixed results when it comes to whether the technicians honor such requests…

I think refinishing/polishing is not part of the service when the watch is under warranty, at least on my A11 they "skipped" it.
