This is/was my grail, but then it didn’t stop me from lusting for the new white speedy and waiting on the next 55th anniversary speedy…

Wow interesting, so is it one-of-a-kind? How did you get one? That's awesome you have such a unique variant!
Nah def not one of a kind. I know others with one

Either the gold 50th or Canopus. Or that blue sapphire Speedy. I think anything else (50th Snoopy, Tintin, etc) are theoretically achievable by me 😀

What if you just got the hands from the new white Speedy. Would probably make it a lot easier to read.

That isn't a slight on that watch. It's absolutely stunning, just a little low on legibility.

I don't have a grail but I'd love to pick up either a 50th Silver Snoopy or a summer blue Ploprof.

It's so nice. I can't justify it new, but I'm looking forward to the used prices coming down in a few years

the 42mm PO. I found an orange bezel and added the adjustable clasp. Perfection.

Probably going to have to part with it. Eye issues. Selling a grail is not fun

Speedmaster 105.012-66 with the CB case (I know this isn't modern).

The watched used to time the Apollo 13 burn (peak of the space program) and I love the added interest with the CB case and fat and short pushers of the 105.012s.

Funny thing is, I mostly buy watches to wear. So I probably don’t want the 1-of-50 skeletonized, platinum Speedmaster. Though if somebody else was buying, I might go for the platinum cal 321 on a strap (311.93.42.30.99.001). IMO, that piece is the ultimate oxymoron — conspicuous consumption that nobody would ever even notice. And it is really nice looking.

But in a more realistic vein, a couple of my real-world grail pieces would be an Apollo-Soyuz Speedmaster or a Buzz Aldrin 105.012 Speedmaster. Neither of which are particularly modern, but I guess I’m more of a vintage guy at heart.

My grail... They are not that expensive. Everytime I think to buy one I get another watch but keep looking at it. Maybe I should just get it?

My absolute grail. Get a Speedmaster 1957 ref 3594.50 and then source a blue panda dial - Gemini IV and make this... Almost did this a few nights ago but I found a brand new Spring Drive Grand Seiko Diver for an absolute steal so bought that instead.

But you could do this watch for less than $6,000 for the parts.. Very doable. Maybe next year or in 6 months.

You should. I just saw this reference recently, and it is really attractive.

This is probably the most fun looking modded Speedy I have seen. Definitely do this!

some more thought, apart from another 3861 SS Speedy and an affordable price (new) for me, I’d have to say one of those secret service no date, brushed, ecru lume. Closed case back with no need to be CIA, Special Force, Danish King attached.
