What is / would be your One Watch Collection?

Before you decide, tell me - could you even be a One Watch Guy (or One Watch Girl)?

If so, what would be your one watch collection? Or if you are already there, what IS your one watch collection? Is this one watch already in your multi-watch collection? If it is, why do you have the others?

I am really curious what one watch could do it for you. I sometimes dream about being a one watch guy, but I know my love of variety in this hobby wouldn't allow it.

I'll go first. If I had to reduce to a single watch, it would be the PO 39.5 I got last month. I have been chasing other, cheaper PO substitutes for several years now, and I finally said "screw it" and bought the ultimate watch, and it's amazing. However, I wouldn't want to dump the other 17, so I guess I am a slave to my desire for options.

How about you? Are you also a watch hoarder, or could you go full Marie Kondo and make the ultimate simplification of your life?

1) No, I couldn’t.
2) Yes, the watch is in my collection.
3) I got others because I’m a collector.

Following strictly your questions flow, there’s no way to tell what’s that one watch. I’ll keep that as a secret then 😉

But you ignored the "What IS your one watch collection" question? 😁 It's ok to keep it a secret 😎

I like to call myself a collector, but I'm not sure what the difference is between a collector and a hoarder 🤔

Would you guys be happy to ditch all your other watches for these single pieces?

To clarify, I'm not asking for anyone's grail watch. Truthfully, the "Grail Watch" doesn't really exist, IME. Once you have obtained it, you find another grail, and the march goes on. It's more like, "could you be happy with just a single watch? If so, what is it?"

If just one watch, it would be my Submariner.

Hmmm…I lived with a Seiko chronograph on bracelet for twenty or thirty years. When it pooped out I went thru a series of watches. Right now I’m hoping to become a three-watch-guy. In no order, an Autavia Jochen Rindt, Speedie moon watch, and IWC Portugueser chronograph. The others I think I’ll move along.

During the apocalypse? I’d probably go w the moon watch. I think it’ll take a beating, and it is the most comfortable watch I own.

My first serious watch was given to me on my 21st birthday decades ago - a Seamaster 300 diving watch. I wore it every day for over twenty years and it served magnificently. I finally gave it to one of my sons.

Your question prompted me to think if I could own only one watch, what would it be? Would I choose to keep something iconic like my moon watch, or something elegant like one of my vintage Constellations, or something more practical that I could wear through thick and thin like my old Seamaster?

In the end, practicality was more important. After all. a watch is a tool first and foremost. So here is my choice.

Can't be done.

I ain't tough enough for this thread's requirements.

I'm posting this one so I can have a watch in the thread. I'd come closest to being able to live with one of these than any other.

A CK2913 that was NOS and ready for everyday wear
That's a fine choice for sure.

Interesting. My 5 digit sub was my one and only watch for a long time.

I didn't click with my moonwatch for other reasons, but I will say it was a very comfortable watch to wear. Definitely a good choice for the one and only.

I agree - reducing to a 3 watch collection is a lot easier than a single watch. I posted this photo of my proposed triple colleciton in another thread, so apologies now for pic whoring here:

I know, it's a tough call. But I have heard many people claim the Explorer 1 as their GADA watch, so it makes sense for a one and only.

Agreed that practicality and GADA status is paramount here. Solid choice you have made.

I should add that, before I got the fever, I did have only one watch for ten years, and if I had to go back to only one, that’s the one it would be, i.e. this one
