I thought it might good to have a thread on watches you think would make for a great one watch collection. This is your take everywhere, any occasion, any brand, any price range. Could go on for ever with suggestions but what are your recommendations?

Requirements:

• Versatile ( dress up, or dress down)
• Rugged and reliable (take everywhere, anywhere)
• Over 100m water resistance

Two I think are great to start:

• Omega AT Worldtimer - My daily wear. Also favourite worldtimer at any price point. I wear it with suits and on the weekends. Great travel watch and also one of the most accurate. Only downside is 43mm size which is great for me as I have over 7 inch wrists but not for everyone. Omega pic + mine in the wild.

• Tudor Black Bay GMT - 41mm, 200 metres. Great build quality, rugged, looks great for all occasions and can’t be beaten on price for what you get.

My first thought was a submariner but then why not go for a GMT master 2. It does not get more versatile than that. So my vote goes for a Pepsi or a Batman as the one and only watch you'll ever need.

Not if you include affordability in the equation.

Agreed I think Pepsi/ Batman is perfect example and a grail for me. I substituted the Tudor GMT "pepsi" as I was leaving someone to bring these up!

Amazing watch, but if money is not an option isn't Rolex superior in terms of durability ?

Nope. On par, certainly, but I wouldn’t say superior. Remember that Rolex lost the NASA competition to Omega.

I must emphasize that my response is completely hypothetical and technical abiding to the above prerequisites.
Nomos, Atlantic, 37mm, fabulous dial, simple three hander with sub-second, 200m water resistance.

if water resistance can be flexed to 100m equal and over,

I don't know about durability but the fact that Rolex promises precision better than COSC and delivers on it is pretty amazing.

Granted. Let's just say you can't go wrong with either brand. I'm a big fan of the SMP 300 and best bang for the buck no doubt
