I’ve seen the gamut of $350-700, both of your estimates are on that spectrum. Also depends on if they are just doing a clean and oil or if they are actually scrutinizing the parts for wear and replacing accordingly- and then the cost of parts on top.
We all have seen that what is “serviced” can vary.

But isn't that step part of a normal service?

Should be, but watchmakers offering lower then market service pricing, are sometimes cutting steps...

In my experience it varies. The “correct” way is to indeed inspect and replace all parts that are out of spec. Sometimes even replacing parts that are still within spec but showing signs of wear that will eventually need replacement as a preventative measure.
I have had watchmakers who will just strip, clean & oil and replace parts that are broken or grossly out is spec- then put it back together and regulate as closely as they can. This is fine for me on some of my cheaper watches where it gets them running again and not imploding on themselves.
Then there are the ones that just partially disassemble and oil target areas, then put it back together and regulate it as close as possible- this is what I think of when I see “serviced” on eBay but no paperwork supporting it. This watch may indeed run for a long time, but by our definition- it isn’t serviced.

So my Ardath is in for service. FS and a new mainspring is $400. That’s pretty typical for my watchmaker.

Have a 50 yo Speedmaster in for overhaul at Nesbits in Seattle. Their quote for an Omega Cat 3 Vintage model is $850, which includes movement cleaning, oiling, case reseal with new gaskets, pressure test, case and bracelet cleaned and refinished (if selected). Included in the price is 2 pushers, crown. 3 year warranty included on parts and labor. I think their prices would be similar to what Omega Service network would charge.
