Having watches as a hobby is really fascinating. Of all the watches Omega has made I think that Apollo 8 is one of the most beautiful watches they have made.

It’s fab. I didn’t think I’d really bond with it, but it’s become my favourite very quickly. It’s a really good watch.

Hi all

Just to let you know I have now managed to put up a small review of the Apollo 8 with some pictures in the Omega Review section here on the forum.

If anyone in the SE of England is looking for an Apollo 8 watch there is one sitting in the window of the OB in Bluewater shopping centre, I nearly pulled the trigger today but SWMBO threatened to do something unpleasant to my unmentionables with some rusty spoons, so I just stood outside and drooled 😀

Does anybody happen to know the suggested retail price in Switzerland (CHF)?
Thank you much!

Guys this one is going to be widely available on a walk in basis.

Styling is love it or hate it and it's not cheap!

I think that you are right, at least on the foreseeable future. On the other side I don’t think that Omega will keep making them for too long for the same reasons you gave plus the possibility of the new coaxial movement taking over the 1861.

These are going to be the same as rest of dsotm series. -30% msrp. Already seeing them under 8.9. Just wait until apollo madness dies down and you'll see.

I see at least one at a very reputable grey market dealer (who tends to be good with pricing) listed for $11,175.

I suspect that's because they have barely been trickling in.

I doubt it'll be the same as the rest of the DSOTM series, especially considering they don't carry a $12k MSRP like those do, and this has a skeletonized 1861 movement which is a bit more legendary.

I think the position of them is going to be similar to the Aventurine Speedmaster Moonphase 1866 which ended production recently and was also a much higher priced manual wind Speedmaster with relatively slow production rates, so it'll probably drop a bit for a while and after they end it maybe go up a bit but I'm more keen to just wear it as its really one of their best on the wrist

Nah, I've been watching these for months. Grays starting LISTING these at 12k-13k but none moved. It started from 1 sale on ebay that was supposedly around 13k. No others have moved for that. Now that they are readily available prices are down to around 8.9 and those aren't moving either. they are now available at omega website why would anyone pay above msrp? There is one on here that has been available for months for 8.9 and it is sitting. DavidSW has one for msrp and he had it on sale last week for less than, and it didn't move. i see these between 8-8.5 within a month and then go down from there..

Yep, they are popping up in more places. As for value I personally couldn’t care less. I have one of these and enjoy wearing it.

It’s definitely one you like or you don’t, but I don’t necessarily see them at 30% off purely down to the limited number of them around and the fact it’s kinda a one off in the DSOTM range (albeit a niche product)

I would agree that given enough time more will show up. Certainly not a limited edition as the salesman in the 5th Avenue boutique told me yesterday. In fact he had one in stock that I tried on. It is a very cool watch but hard to put on without the deployant (maybe I am just too used to my original dsotm..?). Would guess within a few months will see these also for 20-30% off in grey market if not less.

Quite a world of difference with omega compared to AP and Rolex. Dropped my AP off for service and the basic steel royal oak is sold out for the year - put my name down as “interested” but can’t hold out hope as these tend to go to their “best customers”. While sitting there someone called to enquire about the 15202 and the salesman told me that peeson has been waiting since 2017. Same story with Rolex - 5th Avenue store was a mob scene yesterday (as an aside I think this store is way below average compared to the other equivalent brands in the area) - apart from the dress watches they only have a couple yachtmasters in stock tho some were available to order. No dice on any submariner or gmt-II as again these go to “established and loyal customers”. Same deal with the Patek aquanaut and nautilus which trade for 2-3x retail price in after market.

It makes sense and is simply a different business strategy. In the case of these other brands the unobtainable quality of their entry level watches drives demand and sales of their other models. Likewise if you consider the after market prices to be representative of the current true price / value (to the extent one can say these have a “true” value) then being lucky enough to purchase one at retail price from AD or boutique is the equivalent of being gifted 5, 10, or 30k depending on the watch and the premium in the after market. That is to say, buying retail for these watches is buying at a discount to true value and, like comped rooms at a casino, if you are given the opportunity to do so it is because you’ve already paid for the watch many times over in other ways.

Conversely, with omega, the retail prices are quite clearly above the true value as determined in the after market, and hence buying retail is only for those who just want that specific experience and are willing to pay up for it.

Let’s agree to disagree. No one is disputing the different business models (I own watches from the same brands), but I don’t see these popping up at under £5.5k grey any time soon.

If you are right, well ok

Look, believe me I’d love nothing more than for omega to flip the way they do things (as some recent articles describing crackdowns in grey market suggest). In fact they may be starting to go that way already as now I see the original dsotm for 8k+ whereas I paid in the low 7s for a nib w/ near full warranty about a year and a half ago. Still the current price is 30% off which suggests around 7k (eventually) for the Apollo 8. Still, I’m rooting for you to be correct!!

Like I said earlier, I’m not particularly bothered anyway. I bought the watch to wear and enjoy. Cheers

I like the Apollo 8, I looked again at the one in the OB in Bluewater at the weekend, it is rather nice, very different very unique.

However, for now I think that I am going to hold fire for a while and see what Omega comes out with in the next few months, I would like a 321 in Stainless but with indications of the price being well above 15K (£, $ or €), that would be a stretch too far, if the rumoured Snoopy 50th comes out and that is around the same price then that again will be out of my price range. But, if Snoopy or the 321 SS come in around the same price as the SS Apollo 11 50th, then both may get some consideration with maybe one joining my little collection.

But if I am honest I think that both hopeful watches will be priced out of my reach, so next years purchase is very likely to be the Apollo 8 as it is such a unique watch.

Hopefully you will get one. And if 20-30% off at a grey all the better. It’s a great watch in the flesh and very wearable.

The more I see the watch the more it grows on me, by the time that Omega gets round to announcing the SS 321 and 50th Snoopy, my piggy bank might be empty, if i'm going to consider those watches I need to stop looking at the A8.
