nobody really talks about it, the few on the second hand market are all sitting I asked my ad if I could order one and they said it is discontinued and not able to be ordered. Was this piece a major dud by omega and they dumped it already?
Good question. Omega was always coy about availability and their site now says it is no longer available. Don't know if that is permanent. I handled one and it was interesting, but maybe too far out there for the Omega lads who like tradition.. And it was actually more expensive than the Apollo 11 just released and that is counted as too expensive by many. Maybe the wrong product at the wrong time at the wrong price.
FWIW, the Australian site still shows the price.... I like it except for the 44.25 case. It's not everyone's cup of tea but IMO a more innovative design than the Apollo 11 50th and Omega deserves credit for creating it.
I went to the OB today to place a deposit for either the Apollo 11 or the Apollo 8. In the end, I decided to go for the Apollo 8. They accepted my deposit so I think it’s still available.
I was disappointed that the watch didn't have a deployant buckle, just a ceramic tang, especially at that price.
Saying "no longer available" on the Omega website is sometimes just their way of saying "out of stock", which I'm sure it is in this case. No way this model is discontinued yet. In fact, the Omega website was showing "this product is no longer available" for the original DSOTM a few months back, but that only lasted a couple of weeks or so. The Apollo 8 has rarely been available to add to cart on the Omega website, although I know it was at least once...but that lasted about a day!
I got mine in March but I was at the boutique a couple of weeks ago and asked if they had more coming and they said no right now. They mentioned that Omega told them that they could take deposits on it but they really didn’t want to because nobody could tell them when to expect the watch. I know that when I got mine they said that the production for the first year was set for around 2k units. Let’s see how many are they producing this year.
I know this is polarizing but it's one of the best DSOTMs to me. Manual movement, slimmer case and the no-date make it super compelling IMO.
