A couple of years ago a friend of mine had the original DSOTM. He party a little too much one night and the next day found a little chip in the case. He took it to the OB and they told him the replacement would be $6,000.00 USD.

I've been warning people of this since these watches first came out. They can take a fair bit, but if they break, it's going to be expensive...

I know, when he told me I was shocked. The chip was not really noticeable but he sold the watch because it bothered him.

There is one in the regents street boutique on display if anyone is interested along with the London edition seamaster which is very nice.

I didn't like the strap and swapped to a the black calfskin white stitch DSOTM deployant, runs the price up more but I really find it interesting and the smaller height and manual wind have won me over vs. my original DSOTM.

Hi, my first post here on OF. Was lucky enough to pick up an Apollo 8 from my local OB a couple weekends ago. I had stopped by to pick up some straps for my vintage Constellation when the guy I was working with brought out the watch for me to check out. I never really considered it when I saw the pictures online but fell in love when I saw all the details in person ... so I took it home that night 馃榾

For those still looking for one, there is 1 in the window of the Waikiki boutique. Saw it this weekend when I stopped by there to order a deployant strap for the watch. Talk to Christian at that location.

Haha...yes, but you have to be doing international travel in order to purchase one as a US Citizen at the DFS. Their price was amazing too! Congrats on the pickup!

Thanks! Actually this is at the Omega Boutique at the Royal Hawaiian Center off Kalakaua Ave (next to Apple Store) so ... no restrictions!

Not really, metal cases can be repaired pretty easily for at most a few hundred even if laser welding with precious metal is involved. Thats the main failing of ceramic, no repair or improvement is possible.

Hi all

Well they had one at Goldsmiths @Brent Cross but not any longer as it came home with me they have had 3 so far, am in too much pain right now to do a review but I have to say pictures really don't do it enough justice it is IMHO just stunning. I haven't had an Omega since I sold my Baby PloProf and struggled with the thickness of most of the new Omegas.

One of the things that drew me to this model besides the obvious stunning dial and see through case back to see the movement was the fact it is relatively thin with no under bulge showing as on others. I also really like the ceramic tang buckle both in looks and functionality as see this as more of a sports watch and would rather spend the money on new straps as opposed to the ceramic deployment obviously others are free to feel differently. I also think this is going to end up being more limited then the limited editions such as The Apollo 11 50th with over 6,000 units and I also don't think there will be another DSOTM variant like this again both with the older 1861 variant with higher finishing that is the 1869 so slimmer and the special dial and movement finish used.

I鈥檓 with you in everything you said before. The watch looks way better in person. Some people get scared when they hear the size of the watch but it doesn鈥檛 wear that big. I also believe that Omega might stop making this variant in the next couple of years because all the work in the dial and the movement, specially since they might be moving into the coaxial movements.

I agree, it doesn鈥檛 wear big at all - mainly due to the thickness which is great and the relatively small lug to lug length (49mm I believe).

It would be nice if there weren鈥檛 that many around, but in this case I don鈥檛 really care - am just happy to have one myself. The 50th will have to be very good to beat it for me.

There might be several around right now but if you think about where Omega is going they might stop making them soon.

True - I can see this apparent first run being more or less it, esp if omega move to the new movement for the speedy.

Hi all

I just posted this in another of the Apollo 8 threads but thought it was also relevant to this discussion so am posting my thoughts here to.

Hi all,

I managed to pick one up just under a week ago now but still haven't got round to doing a review due to how much pain I am in currently. But I would mention that when I first looked for one there were over 15 on Chrono 24 and they were all over retail by around 20% there aren't as many listed any longer but still all over retail by about the same amount. There are also just 3 currently on E-Bay UK the cheapest being 拢8500 and the other two at 拢9,826 and one of those is used and both from the USA.

From what I have been lead to believe these are not being produced in great numbers and my Omega Boutique are not sure how many if any are still going to come which could mean they become a bit of a dark horse and very limited and may well hold their value better then some DSOTM models have in the past. I have no interest in selling mine and feel lucky I was able to find one and get it without any difficulty, so if you find one and want one I wouldn't hesitate plus if you can get a discount I would say your doing really well to get it at a reduced cost.
