Hi Good Morning...

Well, Very Happy to say that the Splashdown of My Apollo 8 will be Tomorrow Afternoon. I had enquired to My Good Friend at Our O.B. About all the Speculation That has been associated with the availability of this Watch. We were
Able to get mine within a Month. Actually a shorter period of time.
It’s hard to say why in some market areas it seems harder to get one than others.
Perhaps I think it’s Geography mixed in with strength of market sales, that determines what and how fast you might get the Apollo 8 in stock.
I think that up here in the wilderness of British Columbia (Vancouver) That the
Number of requests were consistent enough to be lucky for Me in my quest.
Also the People of our O.B. Are passionate about what they do and are Excellent
At every facet of Customer Service. The Mother Ship must pay attention to their
Efforts.
Anyway, I consider myself blessed to be able to get one.
I still remember vividly the cold and very clear Christmas Eve, looking through
My cousins new Telescope that evening. Did we see the CSM circling the Moon for the first time? No... but it lit the fires in the minds of 2 Eleven Year olds
To fall in love with the Night Sky. This was in Northern Alberta...COLD!

In a way, Apollo 8 - The Moon And I have completed an interesting Circle.
One that I will look to wrist and smile on, I hope for years to come.
One more sleep...till splashdown!

Out of total curiosity, is it a Speech-to-text function that's causing this random capitalization and line spacing?

Good Day Everyone!

Happy to announce that I did indeed have a Successful Splashdown of My
Apollo 8 Darkside this past Monday Afternoon.
The watch itself is stunning! The blackness of the ceramic case and the bezel
Seems to take on the likeness of liquid black onyx. Depending on the light it really
seems to flow. The face detail is quite interesting to see in person -
Any photograph that I had seen really doesn’t do it justice visually.
It only gets better when you view the back side. Apparently there is a huge mechanical watch movement on the dark side of the moon! Who knew?
Viewing the moving heart of the watch is mesmerizing...kind of like a shiny object to a crow. Could spend several whiskeys watching this. Pardon the pun.
Overall absolutely beautiful, just be terribly mindfull of drops as the ceramic
Doesn’t do well. I thought of a human sized hamster ball. Hmm...
Let you know how that works!
I have a large Sasquatch like wrist so I found the 2 tone black /yellow strap on the smaller side. 2 holes from the end.
So...$1100. Canf $ later I put a smoking hot black Aligator /leather with Titanium ceramic deployment clasp on to it. Super comfortable- lots of space left on the
The strap. No Drops No Fractures No Tears and ensuing Therapy !

Congrats to all who got this watch, it appears that they are starting to pop up in dealer stock now. I think a deployant buckle on a watch like this is almost a requirement, too bad Omega didn't go down this route from the start. I suppose the price point was the issue.

Yep, I do have to say there is a much larger peace of mind factor when you
Have that type of clasp. I was aware of the potential for fragmented mishaps that possibly could happen . As I was first accepting the watch, the OB Manager hovered over me at the counter like a new mother hen. It appears that You don’t want to accidentally fumble this watch. Hence the longer strap as living on the very edge of it was not an option.
What I did notice was the amazing comfort of that type of clasp, no pulls or twists or grabs. Locks securely. Period. No fuss.
I’d really recommend it to any of the other 8 owners. It wasn’t cheap depending on your choice of strap...but the black gator is smokin!

One in London, Oxford Street OB. Tried it on this evening and it looks awesome on the wrist, must better than in the photos as others have said.

Very pleasant chat to the dude working there and a nice glass of fizz too 😀.

There are two available at the Duty Free Shops here in Waikiki, Hawaii. I finally got to see it in person, and as expected, I loved it! It's just not the right buy for me at the moment...

Even my local AD hasn’t receive any darkside apollo 8 since the release. But I saw a meteorite dial which I believe is already discontinued.

This is still listed oj Omega’s website. Can i ask on what basis you think it is being discontinued?

I’m aware Omega have stated they want everything yo be ‘Master’ chronometer within a few years, so I wonder if the older ‘side of the moon’ models will be phased out for updated versions with newer movements or be retired altogether in favour of completely new models? I absolutely love the SOTM range and had planned to get most of them in due course.

I went to the OB today to place a deposit for either the Apollo 11 or the Apollo 8. In the end, I decided to go for the Apollo 8. They accepted my deposit so I think it’s still available.
Good choice!
Rumors that it may no longer be available because of difficulty get the dial done. That was why there was this delay inthe launch.

Can you post a pic on the black gator please? I was offered a dsotm deployant Cordura strap free and would have had to purchase the deployant at £350 extra. I ended up going with the dsotm cordura buckle strap instead for now as the buckle is fine for me, and I make sure I take off/on in carpeted rooms.

Omega's position on this watch has been muddy, at best. On the US website it fluctuates from being 'available' to 'this product is no longer available'. As of right now it is no longer available.on the site. Whether or not this watch survives long term is unclear. Considering the price point and its supposedly difficult production it may well go the way of the dodo.

Lady in my boutique said much the same. They are selling what they have, but don’t expect too many more (at least in the short term) by all accounts due to the difficulty in dial production.

Whether that’s true or not who knows.

I believe that all the pieces that are showing up now are part of the first batch. In my personal opinion I don’t think that they will keep making it for too long.

A very good point made above. This is a piece which would be unwise to drop onto a hard floor yet Omega in their wisdom cheap out on the safer deployant option and instead fit a fumbletastic tang buckle? I can see how manufacturing a ceramic or even PVD deployant would add development cost but it still sounds badly thought out. Anyone know how much a replacement ceramic case costs?

I got told by OB manager that they cant order it anymore and those ones that pop up are just the remaining piece that other shop cant sell. The one on my wrist just sold yesterday.

Hi, my first post here on OF. Was lucky enough to pick up an Apollo 8 from my local OB a couple weekends ago. I had stopped by to pick up some straps for my vintage Constellation when the guy I was working with brought out the watch for me to check out. I never really considered it when I saw the pictures online but fell in love when I saw all the details in person ... so I took it home that night 😀

My BB58 next to Apollo 8

For those still looking for one, there is 1 in the window of the Waikiki boutique. Saw it this weekend when I stopped by there to order a deployant strap for the watch. Talk to Christian at that location.

A couple of years ago a friend of mine had the original DSOTM. He party a little too much one night and the next day found a little chip in the case. He took it to the OB and they told him the replacement would be $6,000.00 USD.
