I love mine, also have two mates with deposits in at the Brisbane boutique awaiting theirs, I'd say the not available is just current stock levels.

Omega could certainly cause less confusion if they changed 'We're sorry, but this product is no longer available' to 'Please see your local Boutique for current availability' or some such message. To English speaking people 'no longer available' means it's gone and not coming back.

I had in the last days a conversation with an responsible person from Omega, the Apollo 8 will be still build but it seems that they have extremely problems with an supplier for parts or in the production. There were only a few percent delivered from the 2018 orders.

By any chance did that person mentioned if they were going to move to the new coaxial movement 3861. There’s speculation that the professional Speedy might in the near future.

I heard from my OB that they were complicated to build because of the details in the movement. Now being based on the 1861 I believe that they might not make that many more. From the beginning it was not really that well received so if it costing Omega headaches who knows.

It's been a dud as far as sales go. Probably too different from most Speedmasters to attract the core audience. More of a niche product.

Has nothing to do with a niche product.
Orders are enough. They just do not come to numbers. Apart from that, it would not have been the case that only a few orders were supplied by the Basel Fair in 2018.
My dealer said about 2 years delivery time if you do not order directly from a boutique. In general, probably the boutiques will be supplied first and then at some point the free traders.

Most Speedmaster fans want the classic case in 42mm and stainless steel, the larger ceramic case and non traditional movement push a lot of potential buyers into the 'pass' category. I like it, along with the new 50th Anniversary, but both designs evoke a lot of neutral or negative reactions. And both priced close to 10 grand, another hurdle for them.

I'm sorry. But your statements have nothing to do with reality. Demand is great enough, but my jeweler currently has inquiries for 10 watches. But has not received one yet.

I wear mine a lot, and I can say it causes people who don't even think they like watches to look at it really closely and ask about it. And I haven't had one of those people say anything negative. That may just be politeness, of course, but it is difficult to feign enthusiasm.

And if it's a sales dud, it's because they can't fulfil demand in the right places. Not because there is no demand.

Hey There ...
Recently ordered mine through the OB here in Vancouver. Prepaid and funds were taken. Indications are that it would be at least a month perhaps more on availability. I had just missed out on securing one in person, although I did try that one on. Could have - Should have - Would have. Dang.
Absolutely beautiful watch. Prefer it to the New 50th in detail.
So waiting and watching. Pardon the pun. Keep everyone posted how it goes.

Ahhh this watch. I think I’m in love with the Apollo 8, but I’ve been all-in with Seamasters, never a Speedmaster, some silly questions...

No screw-down crown but 50m rated means there isn’t any worries about water, right?

It’s a manual wind - never had a watch like that before. I don’t think I mind that, I just don’t know. There’s talk of a new movement coming for manual Speedmasters in the 3861, this is the old one.

I don’t know if I care about that because I don’t know anything about either of them 😀 Other than the obvs history with the 1861, anyway.

And ceramic - I’ve read a lot of reviews and none really seem to talk about this anymore, but I remember there was concern it would break easily etc and even a snapped lug on this forum a while ago. My thoughts are it seems odd if Omega would ship something fundamentally fragile, but it isn’t as strong as steel. Is this still a concern?

I didn’t want to waste your time with creating a new thread for these, and I’m directly lusting after the Apollo 8, so hopefully this is a good thread to put this in! I’d like to get (or order by the sounds of it) it next month.

Tl;dr - is ceramic all good? 1861 vs 3861 - should Omega have included the new one in such an expensive watch? Are they likely to change it to the 3861 in the Apollo 8? No screw-down crown - does it matter when it’s still 50m?

Even my local AD hasn’t receive any darkside apollo 8 since the release. But I saw a meteorite dial which I believe is already discontinued.
