What dress watches do you have/recommend?

Still doesn't make it a dress watch. That's just you wearing a tool watch with a suit.

A dress watch has only one purpose to tell time and it needs to be elegant. It shouldn't have complications. It's not necessarily expensive but it may well be.

Stop trying to talk sense to the Speedmaster brainwatched. It's like trying to change the mind of a religious fanatic.... no matter how correct you are, and how good you're argument is, you'll always be wrong.

New Haven? If you like good wine, you should join our CellarTracker group for our BYOB dinners every 2 or 3 months. We often have them in the Hartford area. The next is a month away at Peppercorns.

That's really cool! And sounds like you're not too far from me either! Unfortunately I don't drink at all. Body doesn't produce enough alcohol dehydogenase so I'd just get sick (girlfriend in college didn't believe me and found out the hard way). Thank you for extending the invite though. If there is ever a watch-related event, I'd love to hear about it.

I’ll throw another vote towards a GS - in particular, the ever popular snowflake 😀

Another strong argument for the GS. I don't think it beats out the JLC MUT Moon at the moment but I'll definitely keep a spot for the GS in my future collection.

My vote to IWC

Which one?
55 Omega Automatic in 18k

how much more dressy can you get...

Not really the same thing but I bought a 1956 Seamaster for my old man (his birth year) but he politely said no so I've been using it as my "dress watch".

You mean like when someone expresses an opinion about Rolex that is anything other than adoration? :whipped:

In all seriousness, the thread discussion has already clearly established the Speedy isn’t a dress watch. Mad dog’s post was for entertainment. You’re just stirring the pot to stir the pot.

Cartier tank or roadster is a pretty classic, recognizable dress watch. Same with JLC reverso, which I prefer. It's unique. Can find used ones for well below your 8k limit. Nice to break from the round watches and have something with angles for a slim, classy dress watch IMO.

JLC reverso. Love them for dress.

+1 for the Reverso. I guess it started life as a sports watch, but pretty safe to say it's transitioned now. They come in lots of colours and sizes, but only the one distinctive shape. This beauty is perfect for bigger wrists.

I have nothing against Mad Dog's post in any way, shape, or form. In fact, he acknowledges his Speedmaster is NOT a dress watch, and that he uses it as such because he has no dress watch:

I don’t have any dress watches [that I know of]...so I wear my modern standard issue Speedy Gonzales Moonwatch on its original band for dress occasions.

Not only that, he added....

<deploying flame suit>

....so we were all certain he was making light of the subject.

Now, as far as me stirring the pot.... well, that is one of my better internet skills. ::stirthepot::

I have a simple rule when it comes to a dress watch. KISS......Keep it simple stupid. Elegant but simple.
