The JLC is nice, up your budget a bit and get yourself a gold speedy. It is in fact a dress watch 馃榾 At least to me it is.

I vote JLC or Blancpain.

Here my 39mm JLC Master Calendar with the meteorite dial in steel...
If you shop wisely and find a previously owned piece, it should fit you budget.

Or, a Blancpain Leman in steel @ 38mm...

The BP is a little older, but you should be able to find one within your budget.

JLC master triple date moon used would be what I go for in that range.

The globe master maybe. Can鈥檛 go wrong with a DJ either.

@cicindela the GO鈥檚 seem too busy and big to me. Great watches though.
Big at 39mm?

I'm a fan of the omega DeVille line. I've owned a couple, and wear them when I dress formal.

That JLC tdmp with meteorite is amazing tried one on at the boutiques and fell in love.

The super thin bezel makes it seem large on my wrist. It wears larger then it sounds in my opinion. It鈥檚 a sexy piece don鈥檛 get me wrong just not for me.

I like the rose gold jlc ultra thin moon phase. It's a grail of mine for sure and very dressy.

Cartier tank or roadster is a pretty classic, recognizable dress watch. Same with JLC reverso, which I prefer. It's unique. Can find used ones for well below your 8k limit. Nice to break from the round watches and have something with angles for a slim, classy dress watch IMO.

I don鈥檛 have any dress watches [that I know of]...so I wear my modern standard issue Speedy Gonzales Moonwatch on its original band for dress occasions.

<deploying flame suit>

And...it鈥檚 almost Speedy Tuesday!

I've been eyeing a dress watch (not too too dressy, however). Thinking maybe a Jaeger LeCoultre Ultra Thin Moon. Would love to see what kind of dress watches my fellow forum members wear. Maybe I'll change my mind and get something else instead. My budget is around $8000 so feel free to recommend. Something elegant but wearable to slightly formal events other than weddings. No gold, nothing against it, just not my style.
I think you already know what you want. It鈥檚 gorgeous. I went through something similar. Was originally looking at glashutte original senator excellence moonphase (picture from ablogtowatch) Looked great in photos but found the watch too thick to be a dress watch. That is when I saw JLC MUT. Thin. Discrete. Very gorgeous. If I did not discover VC, I would have pulled the trigger. Have not found anything better at that price range. Get yourself that MUT.

Maybe add this one into thr consideration set? Well respected brand, inhouse movement, lovely dial, hand wound which means a slimer profile... 馃榾

I wonder why they depreciate so much. Is that the case with most high-end dress watches?
JLC made/makes movements for the big three. Never really emerged from their shadow despite being highly respected. Now they are punished for maintaining a wide price range and producing watches in SS. To me it鈥檚 marketing and snob appeal. I own a RG Master Moon Triple that I chose over PP and a SS Reverso Duo. Love em both and will never sell so don鈥檛 give a crap about depreciation. Finishing is just a tad below that of the big three but you are getting some serious horological heritage with JLC.

It's really strange, I've worn my Speedmaster Professional with my suit all the time. And no one seems to mind. So strange huh?

I love Glashutte - was a long debate between JLC and Glashutte but JLC was easier to find at a lower price so that was the final decider.

Glashutte seems to be slightly more expensive on average, which I expect is a function of less supply.

Yours is lovely by the way.

Have you considered Grand Seiko? Superb quality and value compared to high end Swiss manufacture.

If looking for more affordable option (under 1k usd) then why not Citizen Diamond Flake from 1965.
It was thinnest 3 hand wristwatch in the world in 1962 (2,7mm movement). Timeless design, no lume, no date, no numbers. 37mm.
It also came in white gold, if SS is not good enough 馃榾
And if you can find one in NOS condition, like this one...

This Glashutte is lovely, too! Maybe I'll try this on since it looks so good on picture. Surely I can find one in the NYC area. Thanks for sharing and good to know you ended up with a MUT!

To be completely honest, I know little about the Grand Seiko. Watched a youtube video on it the other day and thought it's a pretty awesome watch.

Still doesn't make it a dress watch. That's just you wearing a tool watch with a suit.

A dress watch has only one purpose to tell time and it needs to be elegant. It shouldn't have complications. It's not necessarily expensive but it may well be.
