I don’t have any dress watches [that I know of]...so I wear my modern standard issue Speedy Gonzales Moonwatch on its original band for dress occasions

I love your Speedy Gonzales - and you reminds me of Bill Nye the science guy - especially with the bow tie

I also go by that rule when it comes to a dress watch. KISS......Keep it Speedy stupid. Not elegant but not simple......just AWESOME. 👍

Was this your graduation, @Mad Dog? Always thought you were some bad ass navy guy... Anyway, I like your dad's (?) watch, too.

No, it was our daughter’s high school graduation. I’m the dad unit in the back of the pic doing the photobomb job with my Speedy Gonzales Moonwatch.

My favorite dress watch is my Orbis Hour Vision Annual Calendar. The cause is supports it even more beautiful than the watch itself.

That's actually (part of) the definition for a dress watch. It should be made of precious metal, uncomplicated, and thin. If you search for dress watches, you'll find that words like "elegant", "subtle", and "understated" are frequently used to describe them. Date windows, totalizers, moonphases, even second hands, are not necessary. That being said, I think there are plenty of people who would make an exception for the JLC Master Moon the OP asked about. That's a NFW. If it were 37mm or less instead of 39, I'd own one now - and I have plenty of witnesses to back me up!

It should also be on a leather strap. That being said, there are quite a few watches that can be categorized as "dress" that are made of steel and/or have quite a few complications. I'd say thin and leather are the main qualifiers.

I think the IWC Portuguese is a very classy watch with a wide array of dial options, case materials and complications From power reserve to chronograph to perpetual calendar!

Have you considered Grand Seiko? Superb quality and value compared to high end Swiss manufacture.

I agree with Grand Seiko. The build quality is simply sublime. The attention to detail is unreal and they look incredibly classy

My brother-in-law was wearing his Globemaster on leather strap the other day and I thought it would do nicely as a “dress watch”. Stock photo from the Omega website doesn’t do this one justice, but as I knew he wouldn’t understand me trying to snap a photo of his wrist, it’ll have to do.

Hmmm, cannot add photos today from mobile Safari so the link to the webpage is all I can offer.
