College professor (History), occasional TV talking-head, and trophy husband. I mention the latter two only b/c the second allows me to indulge my watch obsession without prompting my dismissal from the third.

Director of QA for a decent sized industrial construction company. Former Mech/Nuke/Project Engineer for the USN at both Norfolk and Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyards.

We built this (thing in the foreground, although we've also done some structural work at the Pentagon) among some other notable projects:

I asked the General in charge of the project what the lifespan was. He said "Forever".

I don't know what that thing is, but that's a great pic. It looks like Cthulhu is about to devour the Pentagon.

I'll have to let our Board know. Nevertheless, it is the USAF Memorial. The spires represent three jets shooting up and away from each other. The height of each is different. Each spire is 13' per side at the bottom and necks down to about 5' at the top, made from 3/4" thick stainless steel. The assemblies have reinforcement and high strength concrete inside part way up. Each spire also has an anti-sway assembly inside that is supposed to reduce the effects of wind causing never-ending movement.

Fascinating, especially from an engineering point of few. Curiously enough, the aesthetics do remind me a bit of the classic aerospace memorial outside of Moscow.

I grow hair where I never had it and loose hair where I used to have much, 24/7/365.

I appear to be World Class at something.

And, as the saying goes, I make it look effortless.

Or Togri is the guy who tells the developer they need to build some new habitat for endangered critters, but they decide to do it on an archaeological site, so the place gets dug up twice ::facepalm1::

If the frogs need a new home, THEY NEED A NEW HOME! 😁
