Does this count? It’s not a watch (yet)… 😁 It’s rather solidified watchmaking knowledge, which I’m internalizing on a weekly basis. 😎

My copy of the Moonwatch Only Third Edition arrived yesterday 😀 It was on my Christmas but Amazon had a sale that was too good to pass up, so my wife insisted I pick it up 😎. 46% off… so if you don’t have a copy, now is a chance to pick it up at a good discount 👍

Just becouse I write advice for not to be suckered in by cheap watches; I do not always heed my own advice to myself.

Of course these parts are stil part of the rabbit hole to find a case and movement for an Enicar dial, I particularly like and have had for decades. So for 10 bucks + S&H i decided to go for a lot of 4 AR 1010 movements.

The dial feet do seem lo line up. Will need a movement ring. This may be something I can make with the laser cutter.

Technically I am not violating my rule of not buying another movement without case, As I am already into this for a penny or a few pounds. It is more like in for a shilling in for a guinea. Or ten to a century.

Of course the cycle is endless when it comes to parts watches. There was a better dial example with hands, So that should be arriving later in the week. Why fix one movement when one can fix two for twice the price. Two of the movements do have balance wheels, only one is incabloc. Untill I part these out will I know how much further down the rabbit hole I need to go. At least I now know the 1010 caliber fits the dial feet on the old dial.

Those 1010 movements are superb especially the 23 and 25 Jewel movement's with gold flash but in many cases as you know non incabloc 🙁 so I too are on the look out for a couple of spare movements to replace broken balance staffs.

The handset and dial came today. Smaller than the 11 1/L dial I have had for decades.

The new 'extra' dial however does fit the 10 1/2L case which I had an AR 410 movement what mostly fit into the old 10 1/2 L case.

I think I will call these three after Goldilocks and the three bears. This is sort of a bear of a project.

Curiously the larger dial I had fits the smaller movement I had. I would have thought I might have tried it before. I could have saved a bit had I known. Still would have had the problem that the 11 1/2 dial does not fit into the 10 1/2 case.

Next up are to wait for some stems to arrive. It is possible I might have a stem somewhere, but without an AI bot matching one would be time consuming.

This strap just arrived in, it's thickness really matches the watch.
The only downside is the stainless ( but great quality) buckle, gold was not an option offered and I may yet opt for a butterfly clasp or similar system.

I understand that the book is an excellent buyer's guide for a Speedy collector, but is there more to it? Does it give a history of the watch including its use in space etc.? If it is little more than a buyers guide that will make me obsess over the little parts of my inherited Speedmaster that are not original (e.g. the crown), I am not sure I want to buy it. I don't anticipate ever buying a second Speedmaster.

There is a little more to it, and I don’t want to short sell it because I quite like the little bit of history they have included; however, the history isn’t the main focus of this book. Given how many pages there are in this book, the history section is pretty brief. But I really like what they included and how they included it. Here is a snippet of the table of contents and a glimpse into how it’s presented.

Early black Friday deals:

The next money pit of a watch movement starts accumulating parts. I had been lusting after the Val-22/Landeron parts combo for almost a year. Most of the tick tock parts (wheel train.) is missing. Found a barrel complete. Spring is so so. Tanner Morehouse did send me an 'offer' one I was watching.

Thought the 4th wheel would be troublesome. One showed up a few days ago. Semi local, in state as well. I snagged it less than an hour after it showed up. Fast delivery. Came sooner than expected. Bonus is some needed bridge screws. And half the price naked 4th wheels go for.

Downside is I now have some extra parts. The problem when buying watch 'kits.'

Still waiting for the center wheel to arrive from Switzerland. Currently in customs.

Did order a ratchet and setting wheel. Stupid eBay billed me twice. Will not let me cancel the invalid order. Customer service says I have to wait till it expires, then clear it. Annoying. I need to order a stem TM has the needed Omega 1340 stem, but not a Val-22.

14L is almost a pocket watch. Still smaller than a lot of modern junk. I still have that pound and a half of fake crono cases, Although I am still wanting to see if I can fit this into an apple watch case.

What's better than the Moonwatch Only book? How about THREE copies! Amazon had a sale and I got two more OFers so we each get a copy for $110. Best price I've seen.

Just skimming it makes me want to buy another Speedy.

Can't wait to get mine on Saturday!

Did you contact the other 2 guys in the g2g list who expressed interest?

I bought a copy of Moonwatch Only as well. Same deal as Zman's, but a different group of three from the Mid-Atlantic G2G crowd.
