Came a cross this Junghans and just wondering if this is some sort of Alarm or GMT function it has?
Confusing with 3 crowns.

Was suspecting that. But what's the "third" crown for? Winding alarm?

Junghans is german, and so it's only fitting that those of us digital natives who lived and breathed memes enjoy this clip with this watch.

This is a Junghans Minivox J89. Made between 1951 and 1958.
Crown at 3: Winding both, Main- and Alarmspring. And setting Hour and Minute hands.
Crown at 2: setting the Alarm hand.
Crown at 4: Alarm on/off.
This site (in german) gives you full information an pics: https://junghans-vintage.de/de/uhre...ivox/junghans-j89-junghans-68970-minivox.html

Awsome info, thanks a lot.
Pretty cool watch for being made in 50:s.

I like it. Pity that the case is chrome plated ,the rest could have been fixed.

Cheers, Kapka

This watch has one single spring only, which operates both, the hands and the alarm. A special "alarm stop wheel" limits the alarm duration and prevents that the spring runs down all the way, if the alarm is not stopped manually.

Cheers, Bernhard

That case can cause some serious cutting injury if not used with caution 😀

It's true, I've fallen for so many lovely pieces only to back away because of a plated case. For me it's less about the aesthetic and more about the plating itself, and sometimes the underlying material, causing allergic reactions against my skin. Not a gold man so Stainless only for me.

The case back is made of SS but for sure some of the parts of the lugs will touch the skin. If I understand correctly it is brass that was commonly used as base material in chromed watches. And that is why it gets so ugly when chrome wears out and dark brass starts be visible.

Here is my only alarm watch which was an impulse purchase. I couldn't resist a NOS watch with this funky 70:s style design 😀 The dial changes the blue shades depending on the angle..The brand is more or less unknown for me except that I have another Tell Chrono.

I've had good luck putting a small bit of clear fingernail polish on plated clasps that were irritating my skin. Could maybe do this to the underside of the lugs if you also have sensitivities.

I own a couple of alarms...

A must have in the collection, a Cricket!

Rare single crown, where the bezel winds and sets the alarm (very fragile movement). Love those Art-Deco numerals! The 2 hander might even be more rare.

Now, I believe, I am just over 60! Yeah, possibly my favorite complication (and most useful)!

A few on the Bible...

Gotta have a JLC Memovox...
