Just finished watching Breaking Bad for the first time - missed it on the original run. The central premise is quite a critique of the US, and very foreign to much of the developed world, but it made for a good story.
Looking forward to following up with Better Call Saul.
We are also in the last season of Ozark, which has been interesting.
I loved BB and hated Ozark. One had humor and epic cinematography, the other was just bad decisions after bad decisions.
Pluribus is amazing from the creator of BB!!
Funny I never thought of it as critical of the US…. But yeah in hindsight the prime motivation of the protagonist is due to a uniquely American issue.
It’s then enabled by American drug problems and policies.

Yes, lots of bad decisions in Ozark, and I struggle with deciding who is the worst character in it. The very grey and muted colour palette makes it a bit of a slog to watch sometimes, in particular when we were watching BB at the same time, which is very vibrant.
Regarding not realizing the critique, well I suppose when you live in that system it seems a normal struggle for people, but for us it's just odd. I recently read that Cranston said he was not averse to some sort of reboot or movie, reviving the character. It would be interesting to see what they do with that, but the chances of them making something that doesn't live up to the original is strong so I'm always leery of these things.
I've read very contrasting opinions on the ending - some say it was very against Walt's character to save Jessie at the end, but I don't think it was really. I think despite everything he cared for him in some way, and I'm glad they let that bit of humanity show through. Thoughts?
Since my wife wasn't into watching yet another violent show, I started watching Peaky Blinders on my own. Another very grey show a lot of the time, but the seasons are short and I've enjoyed it so far. Many more bad decisions there too...and it seems they are also doing a movie to follow up on the series soon.
Was doing a bit of reading up on the 3 Body Problem and discovered that it had also been made as a 30 part series in China for chinese domestic consumption by Tencent so having watched the first episode in the Western produced series I am also concurrently watching the Chinese series also first episode.
I must say I am enjoying the juxtapositions of the 2 different cultural representations of it, though probably I am at a bit of advantage with that as I do have a very deep understanding of the psyche of both cultures and their perspectives.
I suppose I should read the books to, pretty sure I have the first one in the trilogy around here somewhere but hadn't gotten around to reading it.

I’ve been on a bit of a 90s nostalgia kick recently. Just wrapped up Northern Exposure, which I watched when it aired in the early half of the 90s and then it disappeared from any kind of home video or streaming for decades due to music licensing issues. It’s now on Amazon with original music restored.
Now looking for something relaxing to watch during what will hopefully be a quiet holiday time. I may start the Pride and Prejudice mini series also from the 90s. The one with Colin Firth playing Mr Darcy. Growing up with only a handful of over the air channels, PBS was a staple for television in my house with a lot of imported British dramas, and I remember watching the series with my grandmother when it first came out.
I’ve been wanting to rewatch northern exposure!!! Thanks!!!
