I watched it last night. Gretchen Mol does a great performance playing Betty and she is really lovely. Nice music from the 40`s and 50`s with old street view clips from the same time complementing this movie. Full movie below, enjoy!

I ended up watching two episodes of Walker Texas Ranger last night. Used to watch it a bit when I was a kid. This was the result of boredom and free streaming live tv meeting. The show is ridiculous. One episode featured a brown bear aggressively chasing and mauling anyone in the area while Walker was trying to have a bachelor party camping trip. Seems they were running low on ideas.

I've been re-watching Elementary and recently started watching Murdoch Mysteries. This recent time travel thread has put an itch somewhere special to rewatch star trek, starting with the original series!

Just started Elementary. Two episodes in and we are really liking it. Thanks for the tip

Hagler-Hearns, 3 rounds of absolute mayhem

One of the greatest chins vs one the biggest ever bangers.

Nearly 39 years ago now and it's still one of the most brutal fights ever.

Because he was cut early The Marvellous one turned from switch hitting box-fighter to a slugger intent on getting the hit-man out early.

The 80's had Hagler, Hearns, Leonard, Duran and Benitez as the big 5 in an era rich with talent and reminiscent of the late 1940's.

Been watching the series Futureman, well into the 2nd season now, quite entertaining and not as crass as I had imagined it to be.

Also been watching the new season of Halo, enjoyed season one but season 2 has upped its game with more character development, better story line and better directing.

Another series I am just resuming is the VanHelsing TV series, season 5, don't know how I missed it's release, COVID sought of interrupted it for me so I guess the story has a real conclusion at the end of season 5.

Just finished season 2 of The Tourist. Nice follow-up to a good first season, and with a really good twist at the end.

Also watching Season 3 of Resident Alien - the gift the keeps on giving...

Just finished season 1 of Fallout. Not a gamer, so never played the game, but the series is very entertaining.

I have to say, Walton Goggins is just a great actor. I first noticed him in The Shield, which is one of my favourite series of all time. He was great in Justified, played against type in Sons of Anarchy, showed his comedy chops in Vice Principles and The Righteous Gemstones, and is great in Fallout. He's become one of my favourite actors.

Brave New Worlds has reminded me why Star Trek can be so good.

it’s the most like the original series and tackles social issues from the side, while being positive and very excellently casted.

it’s like a bunch of high school theater kids that love Star Trek where given a massive budget.

Very very highly recommend. Needs to get to episode 3 to pick up speed.

Better book. But good show!
Can anyone name one that doesnt follow this trend? Is there a great show or movie that was better than the book it was based on? Not being flippant just generally curious if anyone has an example of a mediocre book being made into a good movie or show?

I read a lot and I cant think of many, or any outside of childrens books.

edit to add: okay, probably Star Wars qualifies. Lucas was a mediocre author at best, great stories but not the best classical writer.

But the Star Wars movies came first, which I think violates the formula for some degree?

The Thing: based on John Campbell's short story "Who Goes There?" This is my favorite Carpenter movie because of the way that it builds tension. I don't know if short story adoptions count, but I also have to toss out Blade Runner as another option if so.

Fight Club: I really think this nailed it.

Lastly, I'll mention the Lord of the Rings as such a good adoption that there is a significant crowd that thinks the movies are better than the book and even the people who don't think that still find them, for the most part, quite well done.

Star Wars; Well technically the book came out before the movie, but the book was based on the screenplay so you are probably right, doesn't count.

Fight Club is a good call! Book was good but somewhat forgettable compared to the movie.

LOTR: No, cant do that one. The last round of films was quite good, very well done, but for me certainly not better than the books.

What about Apocalypse Now? Or are we only talking literal film versions?

I also think quite a few film versions of works by Shakespeare are pretty good.

One flew over the Cuckoo's nest is a good version of the book, would I say better? Probably not, but it is a fantastic film.

3 body problem… books a little long winded and hard to follow.

Altered Carbon, the book and show are about equal and go in different directions.
