What are you watch collecting aims for 2025?

For 2024 I posted:

https://omegaforums.net/threads/what-are-your-objectives-for-2024-watches.167269/post-2279236
My objective is primarily to enjoy the watches I have. However, I might pick up another modern watch for rainy days if the right one comes along. Offerings from micro-brands Baltic, Farer have been quite tempting.

I managed to accomplish that, moving out a few watches that didn't get much love. I didn't buy a modern watch but instead a 80s diver that fit the purpose, I also picked up a F300 Constellation.

Again, my goal for 2025 will again be to enjoy my current collection. If the right example comes up for the right price I may pick up an Accutron Astronaut, and/or a Bulova Wrist Alarm with the wiggly alarm hand.

I don’t have any watch purchases planned for 2025. There, I said it. My goal is to make more focused time to create watch straps and watch-related goodies. Changing up my own watch straps will bring more fun to the existing collection without increasing the collection.

I might buy a railroad approved pocket watch if the right one presents itself at the right price. I’ve also been thinking about getting my first gold watch, something like my Gruen, but in solid gold. I might sell a few pieces to make that happen.

A cheap and cheerful alarm watch has also seemed like fun. But, with maintaining vintage watches not getting any cheaper or easier, I keep looking at my 12 watch box and wondering how a 6 watch box would look instead.

Though I ordered it on Boxing Day, my First watch of 2025 is on DHL right now ... Seagull Green Moonphase in the bronze case.

Now, do I buy that Tissot Petite Seconds or wait for the revelot Terra? lol

No plans, really. But always open to “tripping over” something that intrigues me. I have a growing problem of how to store them! I recently bought a real nice watch cabinet with storage for 20 watches. I emptied the watches in my sock drawer (not really) and put the watches into my new cabinet. Still not enough room. If I was smart, I’d unload a few watches!

I want to continue to sell off pieces I don’t wear and use the funds to buy a few pieces I will. Most importantly, a nice wedding watch!

Great thought provoking post mate!
Contrary to most, after collecting for the last 20+ years, hoarding everything from Omega, panerai, seiko & co, I’ve actually sold everything & I’m down to an Apple ultra 2 lol?!
Looking to add a 2200.50 & tap out for the conceivable future -
Maybe I’ve reached some form of enlightenment lol but flipping & flopping multiple pieces every year just doesn’t bring a lot of joy anymore-
Shiny stuff not boosting the “soul meter”
Wife’s comments to that “but watches make you happy” ………lol
My internal response is “but do they really”

Anyways - therapy session over
If you’ve read this far I applaud you 😂

I might check in on this mid-year & see what actually transpired
Good in theory - let’s see if also good in practice

It’s all good fun nonetheless my friends 🤜🤛

I had no plans until today...Need a moonphase and I hope it's not just a redial blue side of the moon.

I have a few new watches on my wishlist: ever since buying a vintage Ebel Sportwave I have been wanting to try a modern version and the new 37,5mm looks pretty good and I would also like to own the new’ish Vertex M36.

BUT I will need to sell something. I wear the same 2-3 watches for 95 percent of the time but still I find it hard to sell the pieces I don’t wear that often.

My goal is to become very knowledgeable about Polerouters so that the next one I buy will hopefully not give me headaches like the one I recently bought.

I ordered @Mazoue's book The Polerouter which I expect will be very helpful, and I'll use the website universalgenevepolerouter with it's helpful reference table and other information on it.

Oh interesting.

Do you mind sharing what issues did you have with your polerouter?

I was in a polerouter phase as well, at one point I had like 6-7 polerouters, some gilt, 1 tropical and 1-2 polerouter subs.

Wow, that many, sounds great.

Mine was running very fast when I got it, not that any book would have helped there but it has the cal. 215 microrotor, Patent pending. What I didn’t know when buying the watch is that the dial should almost certainly have said microrotor on it, this one didn’t. While there doesn’t seem to be a way to know for sure if UG made some Polerouters with this movement and without the word microrotor on the dial, there’s nothing anywhere I’ve seen that shows they did. Additionally, based on correspondence I’ve had with some knowledgeable people it’s likely a redial.

The watch has no serial number engraved anywhere either, which I realized after buying it. Knowing now how important that would have been in helping determine its age and its model reference number, I would not have purchased the watch. It really is buyer beware, the website and book I mentioned would have been a big help to me prior to buying the watch.

My goals for 2025:

1. sell everything
2. buy one of the three below
3. stop wasting time on watch forums

(obviously not my pictures)

...
My likely goals for 2026:

1. sell watch from 2025
2. rebuy all the watches that were sold in 2025 (with at least a 20% price markup)
3. spam WRUW threads across all of the watch forums

1655 ended my desire to buy another watch and possibly my last purchase for a while, or till my SA calls, whichever comes first.

@KeithS , 1655 will end our hobby. It’s satisfying to wear unlike anything I’ve worn before. Get your Patek fix. Get your Daytona on, but the 1655….oh man. So get that last 😀

Well I had a 1655 and was not that impressed with the dial. Always had to look twice to see what time it was 🤣
