One end of the spectrum to the other....

In Italy it's a 2004 Fiat Punto for city demolition driving. Seen below in my patented 3 wheel Neapolitan parking job.

State side...Audi R8

A few years back I went on a family touring holiday and hired a VW Passat Estate at Bologna airport and had a great 2 weeks in Tuscany and Umbria. It got a little more fun when I got to Rome but I then went to the Neapolitan Riveria in mid August in it which ranks as one of my most idiotic decisions. You enter a different world when you exit the autostrada at Naples when any rules you thought applied to driving go by the wayside and to compound it further you are clearly a stupid tourist in a car 4 times bigger than most other cars.I learnt hand signals and gestures I have never had need to use since and for the full week I was there I had to abandon the car rather than park it.Whilst I can state I have vistied Positano I never actually stopped and even though I managed to park in a viewing spot on the amalfi drive it turned out to the kids amusement that the couple in the Punto parked next to us were in the full throes of all out passion. Puntos and Naples bring back rather vivid memories for me

That's funny. The last two times I've been to the Amalfi Coast I rented a car so we could drive around every day. Driving on the main coastal road there ranks in my all-time Top 1 for scenic drives. But yeah, parking does really stink in the towns, especially is you are in something like a Volvo sedan.

As far as the road goes, it was fun for me to come around a blind corner and find a tour bus coming head-on fully in my lane. Or even better, coming around a blind turn and finding the corner of a building is out a couple feet into the road.

The Autostada is fun as well. Nothing like going 5 wide when there are only three painted lanes 馃榿 it definitely appeals to the track driver in me.

I really do love driving around Italy! We hope to get back there next week when our son is 5, and will be able to better tolerate logging a lot of time in the back seat while we tour around.

Try 2 lanes tuning into 5 with the sidewalk now 2 additional lanes happening as I speak. Italians celebrate liberation day by sitting in hours of traffic.

Driving in Napoli is an art and I'm finally mastering it after 3 years. Too bad I only get to experience my new founds skills for 3 more months.

The Punto is the ultimate undercover car for an American living in Napoli. Spacious on base comfortably seating 4 legally and off base you can easily seat 11. I'm sorry you had to see my beater in this condition. The two zip ties were cut off my front right tire to steal the hubcap someone obviously need to complete their collection.

My best drive... sadly it was just a "one-nighter" trackday relationship. Still think about her sometimes:

It was these little Piaggio Ape that amazed me the most not only for the number of people they could carry but the different uses and places you found them.I have thought about buying one as a daily drive for the commute but they do not seem to corner that well !

You mean the all purpose utility truck? These are my last two before I get in trouble here but they are my favorite pictures from my time here.

This is the kind of thing I see daily on my drive to work.

Defying every last one of Newton's laws of physics...

And my all time favorite....Italian nesting trucks...

Had a Honda s2000 which I made money on, now have a 10yr old merc c class in silver for gentle cruising. I prefer to spend my discretionary income on watches!

Wow the Honda S2k is a fantastic car, a definite future classic. It's surely on my list. As well as a Mercedes 560 SEC from the 80's.

Speaking of S2000s, here's mine. It's my only car too

Photo from when I bought it and it still had its wheel center caps. Breaking into / stealing bits off of cars is apparently the major pastime here in California so they're long gone.

M2 actually...
What are your initial impressions? This is very high up on my list after years of kicking myself for not pulling the trigger on the 1M.

E46M>1m imho. I've driven both on the track. The shorter wheelbase makes turn exit tricky. Plus the 1m interior is meh. The 1m weighed about the same as the e46m and had more power only when in overboost. Curious about the M2 though, really curious what you feel about the steering feel, it seems to be the primary complaint on it with the electric rack.
