If your best watch isn't worth more than your ride, you ain't a true watch collector.

I guess I'll class myself as a watch enthusiast then as there is no way (currently) I would be looking to spend £25K+ on a watch

You'd be surprised at how close they are. An 850 lb difference in weight makes up for a lot.

I guess I became a non collector when I sold my Rolex Oyster Red Daytona Cosmograph for more than what all three of my vehicles are worth! That's okay. I still have the rest of my collection for solace.😀

Us Spec e36m3 was not "that" fast. Euro spec with the M engine was a different beast. The US did not get a full M engine. Not knocking it but they are completely different cars between the 2 markets. The new Miata is within striking range of a US e36m

Is that IVC in the background?
Yes, yes it is.

This. It's torquey, reliable, and cheap to maintain, so I'm not complaining.

They also fitted it with an automatic box in the US, which is sort of just... sad

Not mine, luckily. But walk into a BMW dealer now and there's a 99% chance you will find no manuals at all on the lot.

Yea even back when my 330ci was made the manual box was a custom build option only with auto as standard and SMGII standard on the M3, apparently there are only a handful of manual M4s in Australia though plenty of M2s. Just weird that in the US they actually fitted a slushbox instead of just a manual or sequential manual.

North American cities are known for their long commutes at near walking speed. I do it daily and an automatic is a godsend. My "fun" car is manual and convertible but commuting in it is nasty.

The US has low adoption for manuals... but oddly higher demand from enthusiasts. There has been at least 1 M5 and a high end 911 variant that had manual option only in the US. Although statistically manuals are less common in the states then Europe.

They're relatively uncommon in Australia except on cheap and crappy cars, but its also a lot more difficult to drive on many performance cars. The 911 for example, especially the older ones require you to sit sort of side-saddle in the driver's seat as the accelerator is where the brake should be and the pedal box is shifted over by about a full pedal width, so when driving them after my BMW I've on more than one occasion come to a traffic light and stomped on the brake and the gas simultaneously looking for the brake and clutch. There are a few other RHD sports cars that are similarly impacted due to the accelerator being displaced by the wheel well in our countries including a lot of the Italians.

Aunt B's daily is 2 weeks old now, she's driven it once.

My daily turned 5, guess my favorite colo(u)r.

F10 550xi w/ a bunch of performance mods.

She keeps up with the same year M5 up to ~ 1/4 mile (11.9 secs @ 123) and 0-60 in a remarkable 3.7s.

The all wheel drive makes a big difference for launching. On the track, I would get destroyed and most likely die.

Had an Audi TT when I was living in Toronto.

I currently live in a dense part of Boston. My set of wheels is now BMW - Bus, Metro, Walk.
