Like Casio Oak initial hype.
Wait a couple months, and will be plenty available online on Swatch web.

This had to be forced down the throat of Omega by the Swatch group. No other explanation.

There's been plenty more explanations offered up in this thread alone.

This is Omegas gateway drug
I used the same terminology. It's the gateway watch for a lifetime addiction to watches.

One of my first watches as a child was a Swatch.

As many have already said, this is a commercial move to "shake up" Swatch sales. That said, I seem to relive the early 90s when the DELTA , which dominated in Rallies around the world, decided to produce the famous Lancia Thema 8.32. For the LANCIA it was a great prestige to mount a Ferrrari engine but the latter couldn’t care less...in this case SWATCH will make a great figure but who will have the worst will be OMEGA, associated with the cheapest watch in the world, for some time this will be looked at with suspicion...(yes...So...SWATCH is the Boss, I know. however I think this was not a great commercial move for the OMEGA brand). In short, the collaborations are there but usually you add dials studded with diamonds and not case in bioceramic material ...let’s say...the direction of success should be upwards and not downwards...😉

Not sure if it was mentioned but someone on IG wearing one of these (so I kinda believe them since they were hands on) says the crystal has a hidden "S" in it kinda like how Omega has the hidden logo in the center of their crystals. Maybe Swatch has always been doing this... not sure.... thought it was interesting if its true.

It is true, it says this right on the Swatch pages for the MoonSwatch models.

"...the “hidden” S integrated in the center of the crystal..."

Today is the 24th in most of the world, watches go on sale on the 26th. The history of Swatch meeting demand for these sorts of special watches have been a-b-y-s-m-a-l, and that is being kind. Perhaps they have learned this lesson and there will be plenty of these watches available on the 26th so every buyer can get one or two and be happy. And then come back a few days later and buy another couple if they so desire. Or, more likely, there will be insufficient supply and many of the watches have already been shunted out the back door to insiders to be resold on eBay, Chrono24 and other venues at severely marked up prices, and the dude and dudette standing in a line on the 26th is told 'sorry, they are all sold out'. Let's see what happens on the 26th. If Swatch messes this up it will not look good for Swatch, and Omega gets tarred, too.

As others have said and I agree, this is more likely to encourage people to buy an Omega than dissuade them. If branding is the main motivator then the buyer would be looking at other brands, i.e. Rolex.

If the owner likes the MoonSwatch then they might look into the original influence for it as a grail purchase.

What a ridiculous assertion.
You don't like it, and you think you know better than the company that will make gangbusters profits off this move.

Makes me glad they didn't ask you. Can't wait to have 1 or 3 of these alongside my Speedy and other expensive and inexpensive watches.

sure does haha. I haven't made it all the way to the bottom of that page. Been getting side tracked clicking each variation and exploring the differences.

I think they are a fun addition - keeping in context the materials and the Quartz...something to widen the appeal of the brand, they still make their top end stuff but now can cater for the budding enthusiast that is just out of college and something they can keep when they move up the Omega ladder...

I have a vintage (my late father's Omega) and several modern ones inc. a sapphire sandwich and a bond amongst others, but looking forward to adding some of these Swatch variants to the mix and shifting my other beaters...

I cant help but imagine so many who will buy one of these will only want the real Speedy more. "Wow look how cool this is. Wouldn't it be amazing the have the real deal? The one that went to the moon?!"

The strategy makes total sense to me. At the very least it makes the Speedmaster just that much more popular and well known
