I cant help but imagine so many who will buy one of these will only want the real Speedy more
I totally agree. Just yesterday I was in the office to meet a new hire (younger guy). He notices my speedmaster, says "oh man, that's my dream watch. Some day." I said, did you see the new MoonSwatch news today? He gets excited... I think it's definitely a great way for Omega to connect with a demographic that just isn't quite ready financially yet.

And then, he actually knew about the speedmaster. I got started with Omega (and watch collecting) walking by the boutique in my town nearly ever Saturday. Never went in, but admired from the window, with no knowledge of the brand. One day I met a guy wearing a speedmaster, and started talking to him. He told me the whole history of the moonwatch, and I was hooked. Imagine how many people will be introduced to the history and story of the moonwatch for the first time through this campaign. Frankly, I think it's a master stroke of marketing.

Finally, along those lines, I see no reason why Swatch shouldn't milk this for all its worth and make a million of these things. No benefit for them of driving up secondary markets, and there will be a HUGE crowd for both one offs and whole sets. They could make a few colors more limited in order to egg on the full set collectors, but otherwise, I think they're lined up to make off quite well with this release...

Is @Uncle Seiko working on a few vintage inspired bracelets for these yet?!

That would be interesting, although I'm not sure how this "bio-ceramic" would integrate with steel.

I'd def give it a try if lug holes match up.

I just presented this same exact scenario in another thread.

Spot on.

The people with their arms in the air complaining that their $7,000 Speedmaster in the future now might only be worth $6,000 instead if $8,000 are in this hobby for the wrong reasons and with the wrong brand. Omega has ALWAYS been contemporary and innovative and now the Speedmaster brand has finally caught up in a manner that is - to my knowledge - an industry first. An ironic and fun take on the self-absorbed trend of collaborations where watch brands smear themselves in the pretend coolness of watch blogs and similar who on the other hand get to choose a slightly different tone of dial colour and a special NATO strap. Get a grip...

If I was in the serious end of the watch industry and was working on a collaboration* with someone, this would make me rethink everything I'd done so far.

*I can't be the only one annoyed with the "x" part of this trend?

We can agree that there are people who don't care for this new collaboration for reasons other than the value of their speedmaster dropping, correct? I have only read this a few times in the discussuion but it seems to be brought up when anyone says anything negative.

My thoughts are similar to Watcher1900, who was much more eloquent than I and didn't mention losing money.

In general, this seems to be well received and I can understand why. In the long run, Omega may be proven to have to take a big chance that had brilliant results. I can intellectually understand why people like this new watch and their reasons for saying it's brilliant.

I have watches that other people don't like. I think we're all okay with that, as it's often said here to get what you like. It's one thing to say that people who don't like this collaboration because of a fear of loss of monetary value don't understand the real value and joy of collecting watches. But it's wrong to say that people who don't like this collaboration are just abject money grubbers.

I am not saying you are smearing everyone who has a negative comment. But this has been repeated a few times.

As far me, I am so capricious in what i like, i never say never. For me, these watches generate more sad feelings than joy. (Though I love the idea of someone buying one for their kids!)

Still, not a big deal.

* as to your comment about serious bloggers collaborations, that's an interesting perspective. There are aspects that seem odd, which for me has been why do they get to design a watch and not others? But the results have been well done and within the design of the speedmasters. Plus it seems to be limited to groups who have a special bond with Omega. I assume we aren't talking about alarm clocks? For me, these other collaborations are different by degrees but I can see why someone might be annoyed or see a similarity.

Cheers.

Theres been a bunch of posts so I haven't kept track of what you specifically said, or who said what, etc.

But.

There is a difference between saying "eh not gonna bother with this collab" versus "this collab is a terrible idea by Omega"
It sounds like you're in the former camp, and you just dont like the watches. Thats fine.
After seeing some real life pictures, I'm more iffy on them too. The press shots look way better, with the colors being more "deep" or subdued looking to me.

I'd be curious to hear why people think the latter. So far all the reasons I've seen for "bad idea" has been around devaluation of the Omega brand or the real Speedy. Does it actually make people enjoy their real Speedys less?

I guess they aren't lining that logo up straight with the cases. This isn't up to par with @Archer type of quality work.
Haha, this reminded me of my earlier days where I skipped on a watch if the logo wasn’t aligned

But not even factories align them, I recall them being randomly aligned on cyclopsed crystals

The more I look the more I like the Jupiter, mainly due to the orange highlights.

moon watch and Alaska project are the winners
Disagree. I think the Alaska Mars monstrosity is awful. I’m for the Merc, Moon and Neptune and will be buying one once I’ve seen them in the flesh. At present loving to the Merc which has Buzz Butt colouration, though the blue Neptune looks interesting too. It’s good there are so many so we can pick favourites!

It could also be a way to entice a new demographic (ie younger generation) into the Moonwatch fold in readiness for the new moon landings with the Artemis missions

Me too! That would be an incredible way to do the release.

But I am a bit torn; if there is a “real” Speedie in the mix I personally don’t want it to be a gold case. So the marketer in me hopes you are right, the watch buyer side hopes not.
🍿
Well the X33 was presented LIVE as the "Mars watch" on board the Russian Mir space station by both Mir resident cosmonauts om March 25, 1998...
So it won't be a first but seen the geopolitical situation it could still be cancelled if planned after all... ... ...
