my god...they even copied the Alaskan subdial hands....is nothing sacred to Swatch

Yeah, I agree. That one hurt. It seems so out-of-touch.

"MoonSwatch" as a moniker is really offensive. It's like Ed in marketing put in a placeholder name, and no one got round to changing it. Seriously, I just heard about it, and it makes my skin crawl.

These are fun watches that don't cost a lot. Personally, I think "MoonSwatch" is a great name for them - kudos to whoever came up with it.

Making and selling watches is a serious business, but that doesn't mean everything about the business has to be serious.

Because most forget to post the one in the header pic:

what happened to classic designs? IMO, lots of goofy stuff on that dial - "moonSwatch" really? I must have reached old age... 🙁

Mission to Uranus…. 🙄
I would totally buy that one and then when people asked what I'm wearing, I can respond "a mission to Uranus watch".

Yeah, as someone with a few Speedmaster Pros I’m stunned that they could get this so wrong. I’ve lost a lot of respect for Omega. I thought heritage was important to them. Can’t see other brands doing something so seemingly stupid!!

Well there go my hopes and dreams.
No Swatch stores around me.
Well, 1.5 hrs away. But no lol.

The better part of the entire United States outside the largest metros is boned by this move. Extremely disappointing.
I'll be traveling past one on Saturday, yet it's inside an airport (of course) and shows as temporarily closed.

What an utterly short-sighted move by them to limit in such a manner. They must not realize the potential market size.

Marketing move to attract younger buyers for them to turn into future Omega moonwatch ones. Marketing and financially speaking this might be a smart move but don't know how it will reflect on Omega's brand name a luxury timepiece name.

Understand the thought, but I couldnt disagree more from a marketing standpoint.

Omega does not care about selling watches to 60 year olds (not saying that is your age Paddy, just an example) they care about making sure that the brand still resonates to consumers in 10-50 years. That means introducing a new generation to these watches and without a "Moonshot" to bring them the hype. You get a bunch of kids and early 20's that will get these and aspire to eventually own the real deal. Keeps the brand in peoples minds and when the 3861 is the first watch on Mars all the swatch-wearing "kids" of today will leap to buy the real Omega one.

Or I am pretty sure thats the thinking at least. As someone involved in marketing I get it, and I think its pretty smart. Time will tell of course.

Edit to add: kinda like what Antonis says 👍 more succinctly

The closest Swatch store to the Los Angeles area is in Las Vegas, a four hour drive away. They've closed all of their stores in LA and neighboring counties.

100% with you on this @Archer 👍

There seem to be a lot of people losing their shit about "impact on brand value", but where's the damage?

This is a seriously fun thing to make. And it arguably does what the entire SWATCH machine is meant to do, slowly but surely feed customers up the food chain to the higher and higher end brands within group.

To anyone who is offended or outraged by these watches, maybe just don't buy one and move on with your life?

Am I offended? Yes.

Am I still going to call my AD religiously tomorrow and line up early morning to pick two up? Yes. 😁

They must not realize the potential market size.

Of course they do, they’re a major corporation with floors upon floors of people that do nothing but study it.

What you’re missing is that they find greater brand value in creating exclusivity/scarcity.

Again: these companies do not sell commodities, they sell branding

I fully understand that a brand needs to appeal to an audience or customer base. But selling a watch that is branded Omega at a $200 price point will reduce the status or stature of the Omega brand and the Omega brand name. Would Mercedes or BMW put their name on a car that retails new at 5% of the price of another Mercedes or BMW?

Omega does not need to appeal to the mass market to be successful. I believe product placement and association with sports events, brand ambassadors, films etc means that Onega can remain a prestige, sought after timepiece. I hope I’m wrong and that this doesn’t belittle the brand but I can’t see this as being positive in any way at all. Why didn’t they consider partnering Tissot with Swatch for example and keep Omega off the dial??

If any of them want to sell me their vintage Speedmasters in protest, they can send me a PM. I'm pretty sure the market will crash 15 seconds after these hit the shelves! 😉

Yeah I also only count 10. Do we know which one is missing?

If you simply click the link, all 11 are there - the poster in this thread seems to have not picked one up, is all

In any event, remember there’s been no official statement that there are only 11 watches associated with this collaboration; instead, only inferences from the marketing materials showing 11 solar bodies

While I personally doubt it, nothing yet rules out a Swatch-centric release being followed by a more Omega-centric subsequent release

Tell people they can't have something and watch them try to make it happen. I'm lucky enough to own the "real deal" but I'll still pick up one or two of these if available. I remember wearing a Swatch in High School ('87), it's nice to be excited about the brand again. If some feel that this is damaging or somehow lowering the image of the Speedmaster, then so be it. They'll be fun pieces to wear, for me at least...

Yes, they both do. Thats what the A class is for vs the AMG, base price of $33k to $700k
