"MoonSwatch" as a moniker is really offensive. It's like Ed in marketing put in a placeholder name, and no one got round to changing it. Seriously, I just heard about it, and it makes my skin crawl.
Mission to Uranus…. 🙄

Well there go my hopes and dreams.
No Swatch stores around me.
Well, 1.5 hrs away. But no lol.
Yeah, as someone with a few Speedmaster Pros I’m stunned that they could get this so wrong. I’ve lost a lot of respect for Omega. I thought heritage was important to them. Can’t see other brands doing something so seemingly stupid!!
The better part of the entire United States outside the largest metros is boned by this move.
These are fun watches that don't cost a lot. Personally, I think "MoonSwatch" is a great name for them - kudos to whoever came up with it.
Making and selling watches is a serious business, but that doesn't mean everything about the business has to be serious.
They must not realize the potential market size.
Understand the thought, but I couldnt disagree more from a marketing standpoint.
Omega does not care about selling watches to 60 year olds (not saying that is your age Paddy, just an example) they care about making sure that the brand still resonates to consumers in 10-50 years. That means introducing a new generation to these watches and without a "Moonshot" to bring them the hype. You get a bunch of kids and early 20's that will get these and aspire to eventually own the real deal. Keeps the brand in peoples minds and when the 3861 is the first watch on Mars all the swatch-wearing "kids" of today will leap to buy the real Omega one.
Or I am pretty sure thats the thinking at least. As someone involved in marketing I get it, and I think its pretty smart. Time will tell of course.
Edit to add: kinda like what Antonis says 👍 more succinctly
There seem to be a lot of people losing their shit about "impact on brand value", but where's the damage?
Yeah I also only count 10. Do we know which one is missing?
Would Mercedes or BMW put their name on a car that retails new at 5% of the price of another Mercedes or BMW?
