I wonder how long the lines will really be. Most here don't have access to a Swatch Store, and the masses that do have access couldn't care less about an Omega x Swatch line...Limiting their sales points might turn around and bite them at launch....

But selling a watch that is branded Omega at a $200 price point will reduce the status or stature of the Omega brand and the Omega brand name.

To who? I suppose only people who care about that sort of thing....

In other news I dislike Porsches because of the VW connection.

No availability at OB's is the word I'm hearing and given that most Swatch stores have closed in the US, only a lucky few will get these. No doubt they will be $2K each on eBay 5min after the Swatch stores open

Understand the thought, but I couldnt disagree more from a marketing standpoint.

The buzz from this has been substantial. Every forum I'm on has at least 1 thread on this, and many have multiple threads.

Since we’re now onto the “drip, flip, or skip” portion of the thread:

to clarify an exchange from earlier-above, I was never intending to express disinterest in the collaboration

instead only that the copy in that GQ article was embarrassing for the brand, particularly the quotes from the Swatch Group CEO, Nick Hayek. As though he was confused, and thought he was on an analyst-investors call for the Corp instead of a marketing piece for the brand.

The better part of the entire United States outside the largest metros is boned by this move. Extremely disappointing.
I'll be traveling past one on Saturday, yet it's inside an airport (of course) and shows as temporarily closed.

What an utterly short-sighted move by them to limit in such a manner. They must not realize the potential market size.

I do not think the point of this whatsoever is to sell as many of THIS Swatch as possible. They know they could sell a butt ton of these at $250. But the hype that is going to to surround this is huge. Watch these being listed for $2000+ on ebay same day. I know people think this is going to devalue the Omega brand - trust me it will not. I put the chance of ever being able to get one of these for less than $1000 as pretty much nil.

This is of course based on my guess that this is going to be a limited release and will sell out instantaneously. Scarcity drives hype, which is the point.

Something people need to realize:

This collaboration is special for the following reason: Many of us grew up wearing Swatch’s. I had several as a child/teen. Now, as an adult, I own Omegas. So this is a really cool amalgam of the two—connecting these two epochs of ones watch collecting story.

I really wish I’ll be able to snag one once it’s out.

There seem to be a lot of people losing their shit about "impact on brand value", but where's the damage?

This is a seriously fun thing to make. And it arguably does what the entire SWATCH machine is meant to do, slowly but surely feed customers up the food chain to the higher and higher end brands within group.

To anyone who is offended or outraged by these watches, maybe just don't buy one and move on with your life?
Looks like you, I, and it seems Al are on the same page Chris. Comforting that!

Absolutely. 100% in this camp. My face hurts from grinning. This release/collab is totally awesome sauce. 😁

First watch I bought myself with my own money was a Swatch. I was 13 and the $35-$40 was a lot of paper routes...

I called the Swatch Store in NYC.... I was told that they are going to be available @ 8 AM EST and that they are a limited batch.
She also said that the price is 260 USD she thinks. ...... Alt least that's what the store employee relayed to me.

Each of these (reportedly) $250 Omega x Swatch watches comes on a branded velcro strap yet the Omega NASA branded strap is $190 and the Speedmaster branded strap is $160. Did I buy both of them? Yes. Do I feel stupid? Yes.

That being said I kinda like the collab and if there was a local store, I'd buy 2.

That just goes to show that this is more of a marketing ploy rather than an actual full-fledged watch line.

Would be really cool to get one, but the sad reality is that most of us will likely not.

Yup, just talked to a Swatch employee and they said they've been flooded with calls. Combined with limited stock, odds aren't looking good even if you have access to a store in your area...

I think this is like an iPhone SE - so no need to be threatened by it

Ultimately there were some claims that iPhone SE hurt Apple by being a cheap long lasting phone*, however not the case with watches since the norm is just to buy a 100 of them, so probably a good move regardless of the outcome
