Welcome back to Omega and thoughts on Jomashop warranty

Hi everyone. I have been out of the watch scene a little bit have gotten back into it recently. I have not owned an Omega in about 3 years. I sold my AT to fund a PAM 112.

Previous to that and how my watch adventure started was the Planet Ocean 2500 XL Orange Bezel in 2011. The watch really just did not fit right so after a few years I sold it to fund my Sub. I don’t regret the decision, but at the time I had other priorities and ultimately not the best fit.

Well I always said if I added to my collection I would add back the Planet Ocean but this time 42MM.

Jomashop had a mint one at a great price so here it is.

Unfortunately it’s running 12 seconds slow. No service history so I knew I would have to service it just not this soon.

I could use there warranty but don’t trust it. Polishing is one thing servicing the movement is another story. I’m just going to send it to Swatch for a full service then I know exactly and can enjoy it. Well here is a pic and looking forward to being on the forums again.

Can't argue that it's a beautiful watch. Hope you get it sorted.

Welcome back. Pull up a bar stool. 🤪

Congrats! and yes I agree with your thought, send it to Omega for service.

It probably needs new gaskets anyway and they'll check over everything.

Great watch, I often think the Cal.2500 Planet Ocean 42mm is Omega’s best dive watch of the last 30 years. Large enough for wrist presence but not too big and most importantly not too thick especially for a 600M WR watch. I do not have any experience of the Joma Shop warranty unfortunately but an Omega service is probably the best place to start, particularly as you will need the gaskets checking/renewing to ensure WR. In the UK and Europe an Omega service gives you a two year warranty on the watch as well. Wear it in good health.

Definitely send to Omega for a service — it’s an older model, well out of its original warranty, and likely never serviced. Don’t know why Jomashop even bothered with a warranty, other than to convince people to buy. Kinda like buying a 10-year-old car with a “warranty” by the dealer — they’ll fix it cheaply, not correctly. In this case, Jomashop would likely just try to regulate the movement to make it run within spec, but that will only last for a little while and hasn’t fixed the real problem — no lubrication and/or worn parts. Only a full service will fix it correctly.

Welcome back.

I like my 45.5 orange Chrono from that Gen but the 42mm 2500 is a winner!!!

Jomashop warranties are basically worthless. I've heard nothing but horror stories about them. I think you are doing the right thing by simply having an Omega Service Center handle it. It will cost more but you can be assured it will be done right and if it's not, they will cover you with a two year warranty (that you can actually rely on) to make it right.

I always tell people who are interested in buying from Jomashop to factor in the cost of a service from the manufacturer to fix any issues that arise. If the price is still good--go ahead and buy from Jomashop.

Which essentially makes them equal to any reputable gray dealer or seller...

other gray dealers include the manufacturer's warranty, except those New York area mass sellers (Jomashop, Watchmaxx, etc)

Right, I should have been more specific... any gray dealer or seller with a watch outside manufacturer's warranty is at least an equally reputable seller, and considering the issues reported with Jomashop warranties, probably better.

100%, I would never would let them touch it. They were running a spring sale so got a good price and again have no issue paying swatch knowing it will come back great and as you see for a watch this age it’s in great condition.

Agree, if I could have found a trusted seller have this exact model that would have been fine to. Actually surprised I bought from them as I knew what and how they offer. Nothing wrong with it but I would not go in blind or expect to use there warranty.

I had an interest in one other from a trusted seller, but the bezel was all scratched up. Since the look of mine is mint and the price was right I went for it, but still surprised the price was right from a big 3rd party seller lol. Usually they are always higher.

I have to go up to Norther VA for work next week so I am going to drop it off at the Tysons Boutique and let them mail back to swatch. I will keep folks updated on how long it takes to service. I am gong to ask if I can get a service card. I have read they offer them in Europe and sometimes in the US if requested. I will try for the plastic ones I have seen vs the paper card.

I would just send it directly to the OSC without using a middle man. That's what I've always done. Sure, you pay for shipping to get it there but it goes immediately rather than sitting around at an AD and getting shipped when they feel like it.

I will be interested to see what they say about the warranty card. I think it's ridiculous they don't give you a card with the date of service and serial number on the card. I just got a 2541.80 back and it's the same business card with things written in by hand. No date, no serial number. So you have to use the invoice as proof of warranty. Cheap and not befitting a "luxury" brand like Omega.

At first I was going to do that but I ordered a strap and it’s a boutique so I’m not too worried about the shipping time. I also thought I might have a better chance of getting a card vs me just asking when I ship it.

So in lack of card I heard it’s because the warranty is in there system. Did you request the paper business card or did they just include it? I guess will see what they send me back.

Also something similar, I bought a Monaco from my buddy and heard they extended the warranty on in house movements so I sent Tag an email with the SN and they confirmed. I asked would I get a new card with the new date and said no the date was extended in their system.

Every Omega I've had serviced came back with the card stock business card indicating the work order number, seconds +/-, and pressure testing. I've never asked for it or any other type of card.

I bought a Skyfall Aqua Terra out of Japan that had been serviced by Japan OSC and it had the more formal plastic card with date and serial number. I assume this is what you're asking for. I think this is absolutely what Omega USA should include. I get that they have it in the system but then why do they include a warranty card with the initial sale of the watch? They could just say it's in the system and you don't need it. When you first buy the watch you get a sleeve with several card slots. Exactly where you should be putting your service warranty card.

Agree 100%. I am definitely asking and referencing the Europe standard let’s see what happens.

I sold my PO before it got serviced but my only other experience with Swatch was positive. In 2018 I picked up an AT and I had the famous red box that completely peeled. I sent some pics and they sent me the new wooden style one. My red box that came with this PO is actually in really good shape so probably no ground to stand on that one for a new box lol.
