Water intrusion…having a meltdown

Okay - that makes some sense. I think maybe being more specific in your wording would be helpful. This is not "Omega" doing this, it's your specific AD. I don't think this is something that you can condemn "Omega in the US" for, as that's a very broad brush you are painting with an AD who did something that they shouldn't have done.

Not the first account of this that I have seen - it happened at an AD in Toronto years ago...

European Jewellers Fraud | WatchUSeek Watch Forums

In the end, Omega stepped up and serviced the watch free of charge.

The issue here isn't Omega's service, it's your shady AD...

i first though so too. But no, this is actually Omega. They confirmed with me that they are the ones managing those accounts and that those were their contracted repair places.

Not sure what this means - Omega is managing the AD's accounts? What Omega entity did you correspond with?

Omega authorizes third party repairers (I know, I am one) but they do not contract with them to have them do repairs that are sent to Omega service centers that I am aware of.

somebody in their corporate office confirmed. I think I even had somebody in Biel look and email me back. It’s been a while.
My takeaway was that Omega basically doesn’t have any “Omega service centers” in the US. They are third party companies.

How long ago was this?

This is absolutely false. I've been to the service center in Secaucus, NJ...there are several service centers in the US that are corporate owned and operated.

There used to be a service center on the Werst coast - Nesbitt's. They were under the umbrella as an official Omega service center - by that I mean that they followed all Omega's policies, used Omega's pricing, and provided an Omega warranty. But they were dropped years ago, and it was my impression that the smaller places like this were no longer being used by Omega at all, because they had opened other corporate service centers.

But if your watch went to one of these, it's not being "contracted out" because these were official Omega service centers, they were just not corporately owned. These are very different from independent watchmakers like me - I do not use Omega's pricing, or give an Omega warranty - I run my own business.

this was maybe 2 or 3 years ago. Covid made everything a blur (and delayed the whole experience for obvious reasons).

the one in New Jersey, was it this here?

maybe it’s just me but you see the issue here, right?

What issue? They service all Swatch group brands there, because it's a corporate owned facility - owned by Swatch group, who owns Omega.

the OP’s watch looks pretty current.

here’s the section in the Omega manual about the helium escape valve, it states the watch will still have a 50m water resistance.
I knew I read that somewhere by Omega. Thanks.

WARNING

It's EXTREMELY important to not use Damp Rid.
It's based on Calcium Chloride and is highly corrosive to metals.
Good to know!

Would it be OK if the Damp Rid doesn't touch the watch? I meant (but did not explain) to put both items into a larger sealed container, just taking the top off of the Damp Rid container and not putting the watch into it.

I wouldn't recommend it. Get some silica gel instead.

If you have some damp rid, put something metal (nails, small washers) in a sealed container with a damp rid tray and see how it goes.

Silica Gel is easy to get and keeps for ages in a proper container.
My "emergency kit" watch only shown for demonstration purposes.

Anyone came across this before ? Face has completely went off centre. Bought May 2022 predicted time to get it back 12 weeks which is over a quarter of the time I’ve owned it…

Did the watch receive a shock? Usually this is the cause of this sort of thing.

No, omega shop examined it and said there is no sign of damage on the outside and have never saw it before

Can’t help thinking there’s an important piece of information missing from this advice. Are we talking pilot light only, or the full gas mark 8?
Gas mark 5 for 35 minutes 😁

I turned it into Omega boutique for the full service (that’s what they recommended)…hope that was the best move. The wait time is a few months, I would hope that they did something like what you recommended before putting the watch aside waiting for the repair.
Hello James,

I hope you solved your problem at that time.
Now I had the same moisture problem in my seamaster 600 m. I wonder what Omega service did to your seamaster on those days? I also wonder about their explanation what causes sych a moisture in light water conditions?

Unfortunately it looks like the OP was a one and done member. Never seen again.

Thank you Dan S.
Even though the moisture had gone after 4 days I will go to an Omega service to be sure about because sea water caused this moisture.

But I couldn’t understand how a 2 years old undamaged Seamaster 600 m have such a moisture problem in 20 minutes swimming activity.

I think yearly pressure tests are recommended for watches that actually go into the sea.

The WR rating says very little about the deterioration pace of the gaskets.

Thank you very much. Probably Omega service may renew the gaskets.

Yes, Omega recommends this once per year at a minimum.
