I logged into my photobucket account for the first time in years - I stopped using them as soon as I ditched the other forums for OF since this site graciously hosts photos. That was a fun little trip down memory lane. I've been through many watches over the last decade or so. Here are some that were short-lived in my collection and I nearly forgot ever owning them: A modern Ploprof. I found it uncomfortable but it was cool to look at: This Oris triple date moonphase was tough to sell but it is pretty.... And then there was this GST era Aquatimer chronograph.... And I can't believe I nearly forgot about this ceramic GMT....I learned from this one that the ceramic bezel was just too shiny and reflective, and that's why I later owned 2 different 5 digit GMTs with aluminum pepsi bezels... There were actually many more I could post. I had a flipping problem for a few years...Anyone else willing to dredge up some gone and nearly forgotten pieces?
Well, I wish I could forget that I once owned some watches, that I sold them and I wish I would have a total amnesia in terms of the selling prices.... But, for example, I still remember this 2998-2:
Yeah...I found the listing for that ceramic GMT when I sold it in 2011. My asking price was $5,900. But, I'd say I got off easy compared to people selling 2998s around that time!
Well, that's life... But seeing it positively and the other way round this was also the time to buy vintage watches at affordable prices. And some of them I couldn't have bought without selling others.
I didn't even really remember those, until I googled Timex Indiglo and scrolled through the pictures hah.
Was looking back at some old vacation photos recently and came across this. I had this for such a short time I barely remember owning it. It's a nice watch but the maxi case just wore horribly on my wrist. Looks like a square block of steel. It's also hard to believe that just 2 years ago, one could walk into a Rolex boutique and walk out with a Steel Submariner as I did. I scarcely remember those days now. Still somewhat regret selling it before the Rolex market went absolutely bonkers... might not have lost money if I had waited.
Always, always... Honestly though, if you told me at that time that in two years I could walk into the exact same boutique and see only a lone ladies datejust in the case, I would have said you were crazy. Yet that actually happened last week. It hurts but I had to laugh at the absurdity of it.
The only watches I don't remember are some mechanical Chinese ones I bought some years ago (I needed to buy a watch but my budget was tiny)... I remember all the other watches I once owned and some of them I even regret I sold...
I've never sold anything in my collection. I don't have many watches, and the only one that I inherited that's worth anything is my stepfather's Bulova Accutron Spaceview that he wore for years from the mid-60s on. (I need to get it serviced and running again.)
