Nice topic.

I used to bring at least 3 watches when traveling: a sport watch, dress watch and cheap beater.

But now I only bring one more watch, much easier , haha.

I’ve been waiting to see what other watch collectors use for pocket watch storage. Surely I am not the only watch collector that also collects pocket watches! I have two of these cases, both for storage, but also transport. They each hold 40 watches, although my second case is not yet full 🙁 These case are stored in a vault just as you see this one, and on occasions when the watches are put on exhibit, the cases are easy to transport, and the watches are safe.

I had a Wolf winder a while back when (when I was using winders). You can link them which is a nice feature. It was a quality item and I got a good price when I sold it on. They do make nice kit

I cycle to work, and I use a Casebudi in my rucksack to transport either Omega. I really like them - simple but effective, and compact.

As a newcomer (who doesn't have any automatic watches), I'm constantly astonished at the price of watch winders, though. This seems like a function that could be accomplished for far less.

I have a couple of these simple, two-watch travel cases that are just perfect!

Indeed. I accomplish it with my index finger and thumb! (I have three automatics)

I think that one would be as silent as a swiss roll unless you shake it / open it (watch holder only I think)

No worries. It was very quiet but you might be asking the wrong person. I hate any noise or light when sleeping so I have a zero tolerance / not the best benchmark. I had a timer which knocked off winders and any other friends electric from 11pm till 7am. Also it was on a shelf so not right next to me. I don't recall it was an issue.

Did the foam inserts come with the case, or ordered custom?

I have purchased a few vintage watches here on the forum ( Omega, Longines ) that did not include their original boxes.
Since I prefer to keep my watches in a place where I can see and enjoy them ( being retired and generally a sloppy dresser, I will never get to wear them as often as I would like ) I have started looking for vintage watch boxes that have been orphaned from their original contents.
Has the added benefit of slowing down my purchase of the vintage watches themselves :whipped:
If anybody can point me towards good resources for attractive vintage watch boxes, that would be appreciated.
