Is a redial really that bad? Other than that sea foam lume, this is very close to what I was looking for in a seamaster. If it was a fake, I don't think wearing it would even bring me any joy, but why is a redial such an issue? Granted, this one seemed to have been performed during an earthquake, but it's still an ok job. I can proudly wear an omega, and I'm not looking to get rich reselling it down the line. I'm just curious about the general ways of the wise, but I also can't really spend much more that $500 on a watch, so maybe this is a beggars can't be choosers kind of thing...

A lot of members here are collectors and will only accept a redial if it is a very rare watch and another similar watch cannot be espected to come by any time soon. Redials are just not collector grade and hence also worth (much) less.

Your watch is certainly not a fake and if you have no trouble with the dial then you should most certainly wear it. The price you paid is not completely off (many have paid a lot more for redials when they were noobs) but you will not be getting your money back should you choose to sell it. If you believe the dial is an ok job then that’s in the end all that matters - but if you expect to get into watches then I can say that you will soon see why this dial isn’t that great.

Finally, for around 400 dollars you can get a nice original watch if you are patient. I myself have found several great looking geneves and seamaster de villes in that price range. Hope this helps.

If your happy with your purchase and don’t mind a redialed watch, just wear it and enjoy it.

If you're just looking for one or two vintage watches, you're probably good to go. However, if they become more than a passing interest, and you stick around this forum for a while, you might see things differently.

Factory redial, not much. Competent redial it takes an expert to find, not much. A dial that looks like it was refinished by monkeys (would you believe someone accused me of racism and I had to say "I meant actual monkeys!") not so much.

Old redials are common. Sometimes they can be replaced with newer redials that are less crappy.

It all comes down to you and what you want and what you want to spend and whether you think future collector value means a damn to you.

It's redialed and is a "less collectable" US cased watch, but at the price quoted I wouldn't be too fussed. IMO the redial is of a reasonable quality and the only thing that really stands out is the green lume.

Would I buy it myself? No. But I am reasonably experienced and picky, so this would never be a watch that interested me.
Was it too expensive? Not by a lot. I suspect that if the OP put it up for sale in an open eBay auction with decent photos, it would realise about the same as the OP paid for it.

Enjoy the watch, @Hamilton3! 👍
