Vintage Seamaster

Looking for opinions on this recently acquired seamaster. Couple things stand out to me as odd.

1. Lume - rarely have I seen two dots of lume at the 12 mark.

2. "S" in Seamaster seems to be a little in between the coat hanger and the rounder "S" of latter models.

3. Overall dial font.

Seller says the watch is from 1958. I have included the (rather light) spec list.

Even with the horrible photos it doesn’t look good.

Lume was often added but it looks like this Lume is mint toothpaste

OP, your first post says “recently acquired” so I assume that you have already purchased it? If so, can you share the purchase price with us? Do you have the option to return it for a refund?

Redialled US domestic case model. Jonelle case? Not the best example to be honest.

$425, though I would not push for a refund unless it is a fake. The eBay listing said "no returns," but if it's fake they might oblige

It’s not a fake, but unfortunately it is a relatively poor example with a refinished dial.

Two lume dots underneath the 12 did exist:

They don’t, however, in this mint color. Also, the dial is a bad redial, I’m afraid. If you can still return it I’d do so. Hope you didn’t pay too much!

Edit: I was a bit slow there, compared to some of the more established members here. 😀

I once had this model. But I've sold it. Lost the pictures though. It’s a nice model.

You might try asking the seller to take the watch back and refund you by arguing that the refinished dial should have been disclosed to you. Might not work, but you have nothing to lose.

If you paid with paypal you have a big chance you can get your money back. If you want to return it

And it does not matter if he said no return. If he did'nt disclose the redial paypal will probably help you. And even if he disclosed the redial paypal will probably help you. Because of the latter I hate paypal...😁

If you used PayPal, Shabbaz’ suggestion is a good one and you should think about returning it based on the undisclosed redial. If you do so and are successful, it would be a good idea for you to do your homework on any prospective purchases and then vet them with us here at OF before you pull the trigger.

Thank you to everyone for the insight! I wish I would have known about this site before my purchase, though I'm sure that is a common sentiment among newbs like myself

The $425 you have just paid is known as 'newbie tax'. Just about all of us have had to pay it - be thankful it was only $425 and you still have a shot at getting a refund.

There is an excellent sales section on here which is a good place to re-start your search.

The ad did not say redial but it did not say original dial. The pictures were adequate, as determined by the responses here.

IMHO you got what you paid for and should not be able to return it. The time to ask these questions was before the seller sent it to you.
