This thread is worthy of a bump. Lots of good info for those that own or looking to own a vintage Ploprof.

Yes it is, and thanks for the bump! If only I had a ploprof as well to partake in all the fun... 🙁

I'll be taking delivery of this when it arrives (USPS slow service at the movement, but I expect it early next week). Its obviously been partially renewed (crown, hands and pusher). When it arrives, its off to the spa for a service dial and bezel, plus complete refurbishment of anything else deemed necessary.

I've been circling the wagons for a few years, watching the prices of these go up quickly. I'm sure I could have paid less, but I couldn't be sure...

The parts taken off during the last service (July 2021) will accompany the watch.

More pics when I get my mitts on it.

Congratulations on the Ploprof.

One other option is to have those hands aged to match the dial. I had that done on mine. I have a like new set of tritium hands, but they didn't look right with my original dial, so Adam (@photo500) aged my luminova hands to match my dial.

😵‍💫

I am a bit of an anomaly. I like a newer, crisp look in my watches. It would be different if I owned it from new and was responsible for all the history and patina. As it is, I like a bit of light polishing and new hands/dial/bezel. If I can pull it off (and my wife informed me I don't have "adequate style"), I'm going full on Agnelli 😎.

I will keep all parts, but as I am not even considering giving this one up, it's kind of academic.

I do appreciate the tidbit though. Learned something new today...makes it a terrific day!

Greetings team. Mine arrived today. The excitement quickly turned somewhat sour when the crown came out of the case while attempting to set the time. I've seen the pictures and read the thread on this before, so I definitely went gently while taking this first action.

Anyhow, it's off to the spa for some professional attention. It just rubs me a little wrong for the moment, but I'm sure I'll get over it. I've let my feelings be known to the seller and am waiting to see what he says.

Pictures only when it is ready for public scrutiny. 😉

Oh, even though the bezel has a little damage on the metal of the ID, it actually looks pretty good. Still, with a new dial, it is going to need a new bezel.

Edit: Exchanged emails with seller who is going to take care of service cost. Very standup gent.

Congratulations on getting your Ploprof! Even though you like the watch to look 'new' I wouldn't polish that case. It's in great shape except for the dent. It's unlikely your watchmaker can replicate the concentric rings of the factory finish, and a hand polish looks a bit sad in my opinion, and removing the dent will result in the removal of a fair amount of the case.
I approve of replacing the dial, and as you say once the dials changed, hands(I am not convinced the ones on the watch are Omega items) and bezel are needed. If the original crown comes with the watch I would put that back. The service item is a bit too polished. I wouldn't worry about the crown falling out if your servicing it. Oh and don't forget to order an Isoprene if your going full Agnelli!

Its funny how pictures capture every blemish. In the metal, the case looks terrific as is. You are right about not needing any polishing (and the dent doesn't bother me in the slightest).

I am inclined to leave the new crown installed for only one reason; Why would it have been replaced if that part of it were functional? I suppose I could send it along and have it evaluated, and if the threads that engage the stem are OK, have it reinstalled. It looks to be in good shape, with normal indications of wear.

An Omega Isofrane style is definitely on the list, but I'm probably only going to go "Agnelli" around my mates, because I know it will push some of their buttons. 😗

My humble addition to join the club… going to need a spa treatment. I like the idea of having a new handset aged to match the original patina. Should I do that first and send along for service?

If it helps your decision making, a new dial and bezel run about $700 US. I don't know what the hands cost.

Personally, I like patina, but only if it doesn't look corroded. I would be on the fence with yours. The bezel would bother me, but the hands and dial are within what I would call spec. Tough choices. If the movement needed attention, I might be inclined to go all in on the service, including replacing dial and hands.

I know my opinion runs counter to the "all original, all the time" crowd, but that would be my play.

I think your dial and hands are gorgeous, I’d leave them well alone. Finding a nice condition original bezel would take the whole thing to the next level. A good catch imo.

I agree with Ash. An original bezel in nice condition would give it a really nice look. No need to touch the dial or hands.

Agree, the dial, hands, crown and button are all great and I would make it clear you want to keep them to who ever services it. A better bezel would make the watch.

Thanks guys!

I’m inclined to keep it as original as I can. The case has a huge dent at 10oclock and the bezel matches that used tool aesthetic. I have a service bezel on standby so I’m debating that. I’ll need a service because it runs well *most of the time. I say most because it stalls sometimes even after 2 days on the watch winder. A jiggle always brings it back to life. Not unlike smacking an old 3 channel tv.
All the charms are there for me. A new dial and hands wouldn’t fit the overall look for this watch. Shopping for service that is willing to either stabilize the existing lume or color correct new hands, then service.
Lots of options to play with. Part of the journey!

The font on this service bezel doesn’t seem as bold.

Forget that...a total clash IMHO. The original, even in the state that it is in, matches the overall aesthetic much better.
