The only advice I can give you is not to settle for something. Maybe wait a little longer and save some more money and get the watch that will make you happy about your purchase.

Those are fine words, thank you.

Reflecting upon it I think I will wait and get something that I will be proud of.

Cheers

Patience is gold with watches...unless you found a piece too extraordinary. But if you had, this thread would have responds like, go for it, get it now, wow great find etc...
Have patience Kev and you will be rewarded

Be mindful the Jedi like below was first released in 1970 so made in 1969 😉

Most watches with 861 movements can return a archived date a year before release so you can look at 1970 released watches also.

Broadens your scope.

Standy,

You have a good point there! I have seen a few 1970's in better condition so may be able to stretch the envelope a bit

Thanks

Standy and others, have found a 1970 one which I can maybe say originated in 1969 haha.

Looks in much much better condition, had been serviced from a dealer and comes with a 2 year guarantee. Obviously this is not as original but looks great to me.

Not sure the strap is original though, any ideas or comments?

Thank you

Kev

Mine is from Dec 1969, but it took a while to find it. It will show up if you have patience. Good luck with your search.

I agree that patience is the clue in finding a mkii. Good things come to those who wait and I speak from experience!.
I simply had to have one and bought my first racing dial mkii in great haste. Very quickly came to regret it, over-polished, faded dial, dirty hands and incorrect bracelet. After flipping that watch I took a great deal more care and time to get this 1969. Unserviced from new with an untouched case, original bracelet and lovely vibrant dial. Now serviced with a new crystal, this is a keeper.
All the best with your quest.

Similarly, Kev T could have been made in ‘68 and released in ‘69

That MKii has been up on the bay for what seems like years, I think that price and the refinished case puts people off. I actually do not have. a problem with a good case refinish but mine cost me way less than this, service included, and it is all original, right down to those strange stubborn stains on the sweep hand.
Keep the faith, you will find a good one for less than this.

this is just another reference point for you... doesn't include # and i'd guess it was refinished. if that was all original i'd think he'd be asking a lot more.

good luck with your search. for my 40th i got a birth year glycine airman sst and i love it.

Mark II's are not quite so straightforward to date. Don't know why this should be. The early ones had a 1159 bracelet with 154 end links I believe.....

Joe,

Thanks for the link, yes I like the condition.

I spotted this one and you can make out the serial on the movement that starts 32, so unfortunately not my year!

Cheers

That's interesting Tony, yes I suppose someone one day will buy it if the buyer is desperate to find one the right age, is running out of time for his birthday, and can't find another anywhere. haha

chipsotoole,

I'm afraid the only info I have to go on is the serial numbers on the movement referenced against the sites I have mentioned, it's not an exact science I understand!

Thank you.

Chaps,

I have found this on Chrono24 from a Swiss dealer.

It's not a teaching dial but I like it non the less. Looks clean in B&W.

A few queries! The bracelet is different from other examples I have seen, the middle link smaller, any ideas of this is likely to be original?

The serial number is the interesting point, it starts 25xx and dates to 1967 which is before the mark 2 came out. The seller says it's likely an early 1969 model, that's plausible, but I suppose someone could have transplanted an older movement into a later watch? Any ideas?

It looks good to me, clean likely to have been refinished but done well?

It's expensive compared to others but maybe worth the extra few £'s?

Any comments very welcome!

Thank you

Kev
