Serial number is 17,500,686. Is this genuine? It appears to be mostly original but I'm skeptical that the lume in indices are not full coverage like the dial on hodinkee's, here: https://shop.hodinkee.com/products/1958-omega-ranchero-reference-2990-1?variant=243815383055. Looking for open discussion 😀

Definitely a redial. Seconds markers should be longer.
If you are wanting a nice original Ranchero, just stop here and move on.

My understanding on the ranchero is that they are encapsulated in a faraday cage.

The dial is iron, there should be an iron movement ring and then there should be an iron dust cap under the case back.

This is the civilian version of the RAF 1953 casing system.

I will check my Omega book and see if the case reference is correct.

Update.

So not all rancheros had the iron dust cap for antimagnetic protection

Cheers

Civilian version of the RAF ‘53 would be the Railmaster while the Ranchero was originally positioned as a lower cost model with some design features of the Trinity models.

I have never seen a civilian Ranchero with the extra antimagnetic protection. These are the Railmasters.

Yes, my mistake, the rail master, oops.

So the rancheros were not as high antimagnetic as the railmaster or RAF.

Thanks for the correction

The Ranchero was the lowest priced model that Omega made in 1959:

That's certainly not true anymore.

Even outdone by the ladies "Fiesta Series" in '59. 😉

Redial, overpolished, hands appear original but without lume. Serial of the movement pretty high.
