Upcoming Speedmaster

With all the noise surrounding the "Albino" Speedmaster on DC's wrist, i wanted to share something i saw on a trip to Valle de Joux last summer.

I was visiting a dial maker from another high end brand. This company is specialized in laser engraved dials and also makes some dials for Omega. While they were showing us some samples, I saw an upcoming dial stamped Omega. It was laser engraved dial showing an astronaut standing on the surface of the moon. The level of detail was unbelievable and well above anything Omega has done so far. With a loupe, you could see details such as craters on the surface of the moon, mission patch/US flag on the space suit sleeve and the visor was done in rose gold. It was so detailed that you could see your reflection on the visor with a loupe. This was all set on a 2 register chronograph, so I assume its part of the "Dark side of the moon" collection. Its the most incredible dial I have seen in that trip and i cant wait to see the final product when released.

I did ask my OB manager, but she seemed to not know anything about it. Some other fellow collectors who were on the same trip asked their OB from their home country and it was a similar story. Seems like a tightly kept secret from Omega.

Sample dials are made all the time that never make it into production. Hard to see Omega putting such a moon related dial on a watch (2 dialed register) model that has nothing to do with the Apollo program. Am also surprised the dial firm was so indiscrete that they would show you prototype dials that they did for various firms. These sorts of details are usually held very close to the vest and not shared with visitors or collectors. Dials like the Apollo 11 50th or the Snoopy 50th were top secret and not shared with outsiders wandering around in their dial suppliers workshops. I doubt the dial you saw will ever make it into production on an Omega watch.

That did not look like a prototype dial at all. The level of detail was top notch and it was a fully finished dial. Manager of the workshop told us its a limited edition of 100 pieces from Omega coming in 2024.

Maybe you are right, or maybe it was just an afterthought of the supplier. We will find out soon.

The dial is real. Hard to believe, but real

Now, what's the difference between an invisible, incorporeal, floating dragon who spits heatless fire and no dragon at all?

When it is introduced next year, I want you to come back here with the same energy.

The rest of the quote I'm referencing basically says that when evidence is introduced, you change your tune. Until then what does it matter?

Excuse the skepticism, but its kinda hard to just trust the word of a random person online lol. No pictures, details or any other kind of proof ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Didn't Omega also say they weren't doing any more numbered limited edition watches?

Basically this. Here's how I see it:

This was your first post on Omegaforums. I suppose there's a reason for that.

We haven't heard this claim anywhere else. I'm sure there's a reason for that. Perhaps these two are tied together: people weren't allowed to say anything and therefore you've got to keep your identity secret so a new profile.

No one has shared any pictures (in this day and age no less) of the dial. I'm sure there's a reason: perhaps phones weren't allowed. Perhaps pictures weren't allowed. Whatever the reason, there is one.

The dial maker hasn't been named by you. I assume there's a reason you're providing half the info, but not all of it.

We have to accept that you had enough time to look at this highly secret dial under a loupe.

So, we have to accept each of these "things" as fact in an absolute evidence vacuum (there is more evidence the tooth fairy exists at the moment). We also have to accept that the dial manufacturer showed you this tightly kept secret for some reason (possibly breaking some sort of rule or contract). We also have to accept that Omega is going back to limited editions.

Of all of these things, the most believable is that Omega would release a limited edition- but every other one of these things really pushes the limits of logic. Occam's razor- some simple critical thinking suggests that most of these assertions are unlikely by themselves; together they move into the realm of remote.

Does that mean impossible? No of course not. As soon as new evidence appears- perhaps you have a photo of the dial- perhaps another member that didn't join yesterday chimes in and supports you- perhaps Omega unveils this secret- those things would definitely be enough to shift opinion or outright alter it, or at least test that new evidence.

But until then, what does healthy skepticism cost us in this case? Nothing. And it will also cost me nothing to shift my opinion when new evidence appears.

Im sharing with you all something i saw last summer. I didnt bring it up before because i had little interest in Omega watches. Didn't collect them and frankly did not care much about the brand. I collect holy trinity + independents. But, what caught my attention was that the dial was made by a high end dial maker that usually supplies high end manufacturers.

In the last few months i started collecting Omegas, hence my renewed interest in the brand, the story and this very forum.

PS, if you fellas are expecting me to name names of suppliers, fellow collectors who were there or take pictures, you clearly dont know how this works.

Wait and see i guess.
