With collectibles like this the ownership history is the main driver. Neil Armstrong is a world famous individual at the highest level, Edgar Mitchell, who?

Crazy! What’s the story behind this box?
Almost certainly an Omega box, given to the man himself. The box came, along with a few other items, from a contractor working on NA's house. There were many newspaper cuttings and small items that, were they not from the man himself, would be left in rubbish. With Armstrong's permission, the contractor removed several items from the skip, mostly newspaper cuttings and photos, but included was this box.

I have no idea what watch came in it, all I have is the cardboard outer box, and a written note from the contractor.

It's a fun thing to have.

On a side note…. Who could have did that to the case back??? Incompetent watchmaker? I find that unlikely with his world renowned status. Maybe he tried to work on it himself? Who knows…

Good luck to winner. I might have the original box….

Who makes that strap William? I know there are a few options out there but this one in particular looks more aged/subdued than most.

Wow,

I am fine with my modern version for 2% of the price 😎

The best of it: Nothing to worry about while wearing it daily👍

Yes you are correct and do own the original box. The Grissom gold speedie that was sold at RR auction had the identical cardboard box with a small stick with his name on it instead of Armstrong. Presumably that is how Omega identified them at the Hotel Warwick dinner and game them out. Also John Young sold his at Heritage in 2009 with the box.

The history of the box is that construction people were at Armstrongs home doing some work and he asked them to take some trash bags out with contained this box. One of the guys took the box and subsequently sold it on ebay. I expect you are the buyer. You might want to contact RR Auctions to have them find out it the buyer of the watch would be interested in purchasing the box from you in order to reunite it all.

The watches originally were in a metal omega box that was velvet lined (grissom photo in this thread) which was placed into a nice cardboard omega box, which was place in the regular card board box with a sticker with their name on it.

During the astronaut VIP dinner on November 25, 1969 these Gold BA145.022-69 came in a bespoke wooden box... 😉

.
this bespoke box was then placed in an omega cardboard box that was placed in the cardboard box with the astronauts name sticker on it
