For those that like to keep track, the Clymer Gold Polerouter went for USD 24k and some (which I assume is with commission since it was 20k or so earlier in the day). Great timing with the UG re-release hype + the well articulated article about rationalising the reasons for selling certainly helped. Also, as someone has already said, this is likely all the justification needed for the new Polerouter launches being 10k+ watches...

Anyone know if that’s an auction record for any polerouter?

Could this be 24k HK$ which is about 3100 US$? Many of the other items sold for very high prices. Seems something is off.

Yikes! Looks like “buy and hold” is or has been a good strategy for UG. We are pumping the brand again. So blatant ….Is the strat now pump and dump?

I felt strongly that the estimate was around 50% low, but am a little surprised at $24K. Although, it looked to be in spectacular condition and I'm sure some bidders thought the Clymer provenance added value.

Several items that sold way above the estimate just don’t make sense, like an everyday new Daytona 126500LN for $40k. There are many new Daytona Panda for sale unworn for $30k.

Yes it is. However, L'Orologiese can be difficult at times ...

Question is why the hands are rusted and whether that is on the dial as well

What to make of this one? https://www.proantic.com/en/1459188...lman-casequot-ref-22409-cal-385-1942.ht.html#

22409 was made in different batches but this is the first one I've see with serial 833k. Caseback seems to be unmarked from the inside and the serial and reference inscription is 'different'.... Dial is obviously much later. Most 22409's I know of - about 40 - have either a 285 or 386 movement (and this one a 385).

What do people reckon to this - the dial looks fairly pukka but I'm not used to seeing the jewel count written on it?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/226505849569

And at the risk of answering my own question - Ranfft has the 215-97 down as 17 jewels.

The 215-97 does have 17 jewels as standard but it was also fairly common to see these US movements with an extra 6 jewels.

That is what is stamped underneath the microtor - "6 Additional Jewels Swiss". You can just about make it out in one of the images.
