I’ve seen 3 Universal Geneve with this case and 2 Zenith. Greg Selch has a UG one with a black dial. I have a Zenith one in 18k pink gold (the only gold one I’ve seen) but it was unfortunately polished at one time. It was made by George Croisier in the late 30’s. Great stuff.

When researching I sometimes run into interesting things. Unfortunately Sala does not disclose full serial numbers but sometimes they forgot to blur things. Like on page 164. Ref 7071 with a white H. Pfeffer dial. The last 3 digits of the serial are punched on the lug. Now compare this to this one: https://www.bernardinimilano.com/products/universal-geneve-compur-30

Different watch? Now looks at the numbers at the lugs

Let me help you:

Interesting isn't it 😁

All I needed to do was see the link. Still I have a desire to visit, like moth to flame.

$17k … still kicking myself for dithering when these were less precious.

It’s a very attractive watch but besides the panache associated with Clapton why are these commanding multiples more than their more pedestrian counterparts?

I would certainly make that argument with the Compax. These are still special. When you see one first hand, amazing.

I don't think the premium has much if anything to do with Claptop, that's just a nickname and cool association, but I think it's just the watch itself. They are more modern than most Tri Compax and I think that has added appeal.

I like it, a shame that the serial / reference is worn off
Yes, someone got what appears to be a very nice example at what seems like a fair price for a Clapton these days. But agree that the lack of reference and serial numbers scared away some serious UG collectors for whom the numbers are essential when buying reasonably rare pieces at these levels (or higher).

Agreed. But I could live with it 😎
