There's what purports to be a Fuerza Aerea Argentina on the 'bay. I've seen a few examples, more Frankens and outright fakes. Am I missing something or is this one of the grails many Universal military collectors are after? I don't like the dial (square 4, inner minute dial, straight seven...), don't like the case back engravings nor the different ref. number (32426 vs. 32415) but the serial numbers are in the right ballpark and the mov't number as well. Any thoughts from the hive?

Saw that one yesterday. The seller's description, even making allowances for non-native language, leaves much room for doubt.

I have seen this one offered on other venues before and have done my diligence. These models are heavily faked. Tread extremely carefully on this and any other purported FA piece.

The lugs are certainly fake. Movement is legit. Dial appears to have been modified.

    AVOID.

Of interest, this watch is documented in Lang & Mies, although with regular lugs. Dial appears correct.

There was a nice write up in one of the Spanish Language watch forums a long while back from an Argentine collector. He went through an extensive analysis and history and concluded--convincingly!-- that some of the "documented" watches including in Lang & Mies were not 100% original.

There are correct pieces out there, but many have been modified or re-jiggered with field repairs, such as this one, which has obviously had new lugs soldered on.

The FA logo at the 6 oclock position on the dial is another frequently modified or "refurbished" feature.

The Inca Gold Latex is still wet on this one at time of shooting. I think that "Hermes" on this one Lou was misspelled. It is a Medico, I think he meant "Herpes". This one is diseased! To not touch!

The dial on this one must remind some of the old timers what it was like on an LSD trip back in the day. Crazy man!!

I wondered about that when I first saw it. I had a look through all of the Universal automatic movements on Ranfft but couldn't find a picture of one with a day wheel shown. The only date wheel movement shown that looked like it could cope with moving the date window to 6 o'clock was the 138C bumper movement.

I'm quite certain it's a micro rotor movement... Calibre 72 would have been the last micro rotor movement that universal produced before the Quartz crisis.

I've never seen this dial configuration 'in the round' however.

Ranfft doesn't have a Cal 72 listed so that's that, then

Still would love to see an example of a watch with a round layout and day/date at 6 if anyone can find a pic or has one.

    Hi!
I have been looking for a fine compax (aero/uni/tri…) with a 37min. steelcase for some months now and during my quest I just came across that one and am intrigued. totally franken or legit ? the dial looks original but first time I see it with this kind of tachymetre scale. item #121429022355
