I know nothing about the dial decorator, the vendor doesn't seem to be offering any authentication... there is no visual proof that it is even a UG....and that price!!!!

There's what reports to be a nos space compax case on the bay.

Judging by the seller's other items it's legit, would love to know where people dig up these parts from.

The generally held view is that these cases with bevelled lugs are not genuine.

We were trying to figure out what those perimeter screws on the case did. Theory was they held the case back on.

The two perimeter screws should be there but in this case they were the wrong style and size of screw. The screws in those two positions are usually slightly sunken or flush with no screw head. They are used in the "oversized" size models that house a 481. The diameter of the 481 is smaller so the larger cases have a base metal "fit ring". That ring is what's held in place by those screws (they are used to fasten the ring to the case). The movement then has two screws to hold it to the fit ring which you also see. In this case those screws appear replaced as well but are more in line with what they should be. In the non "oversized" models you would see the movement fastened directly to the case edge as opposed to the fit ring. Please let me know if that doesn't make sense or need additional detail.

Sorry, I don't understand. What I know (Maybe I'm wrong...) is that there should be no screws to hold the back cover.
For me it's a No-Go...

There are no screws to hold the back cover, the back cover snaps on. The screws that I believe were in question are for the reason I explained.

There is a bit of a pattern emerging here; it seems that the variant sub dials are originating from italy ...

That particular watch was auctioned in vicenza late last year. I wonder ... 馃槨

A pattern of a total of 4? When and where is the flood? And why would anyone omit the sub if making such a great copy? I'm still not convinced that there is any fouls play on these variants. But will continue to monitor closely. I have shown the watch to 6 highly trained watchmakers and none can say that they could detect any signed of non originality.

So it's your watch? Is this your sales listing?

No, mine is in my possession and I don't think I'll ever sell it. Just keeping close track of variants and waiting for the "flood"

My thoughts on these rare executions or prototypes are unchanged.

I have scoured through a number of 60s catalogs and found nothing to substantiate claims that these dials were standard UG furnished on polerouter sub models. They may be original. However, the polerouter sub was never sold with that dial. As mentioned in previous threads, they are likely to be seconds that did not get through quality control and somehow ended up with collectors.

Until I see a catalog image proving the existence of that dial configuration it remains an oddity 馃槖. Watchmakers get things wrong all of the time so it is best to go to the the real experts on the subject which you will find on this forum.

Flood? What flood ...

My only contribution to this is to say that the whole package is positively horrible. Looks like a cheap Chinese watch.
