YIKES. I paid a pretty penny for one of these off eBay just a few months ago. Hope I didn't get duped.

Came from Turkey and the guy only had a couple left. They're all gone now.

Here is some closeups of the one I got. Doesn't feel flimsy and looks like it has age to it.

And for fun, the polerouter I matched it to 馃榿

These are pretty easy to spot if real of fake. All the fake ones will be flat on top of the U, and the tip of the U doesn't have any curvature, the fake ones are always straight.

I own one definitely genuine 16 mm stainless steel UG buckle that came on a NOS Polarouter band, as shown in the photo posted here. The leather band is extremely low quality!, but the buckle is very high quality. Recently I bought one of the ones for sale from Italy on the 'bay, and here it is in the photos compared to the original. In my opinion the Italian ones are fake. The quality is so obviously inferior, with muddy instead of sharp edges, a poorly formed U, etc. Probably made from a mold made off of an original. The seller is a complete gentleman and says he bought them from an old watchmaker's estate, and he insists they are original. Even originals, he claims, varied in quality. Maybe, but I think the old watchmaker had a stash of fake buckles, whether he knew it or not. I have arranged to return it. Personally, I am done buying this style of UG buckles unless it comes with all the NOS trimmings. They are simply too rare and the chances of finding an authentic one are too slim anymore.

Helpful, thanks.

Very clear where the differences are.

Hi, do you know an approximate manufacturing date for that NOS Polarouter strap/buckle of yours, thanks? Asking because I'm trying to date a 16mm UG buckle that looks very similar.

Well, there's my lesson to never post on something if I'm pretty sure it's legit.

Seems like some sneaky devil here on the forum snapped up this 16mm buckle I've been looking for forever cause they saw me post about it 馃槱

It can't be a coincidence that I posted it and both were snapped up in a few hours.

Congratulations to the new owner. Although I do believe, it was a SLIGHT dick move. 馃し馃徎

These are fake buckles. The lack of quality is evident even from the images.

That makes me so happy.

This is the reason I originally posted. The low price and the fact that it didn't look like my 14mm buckle. I noticed the "U" looked weird. This is the reason I aske.

Totally fake. Plus from Italy which should be a giveaway, you don鈥檛 even need to check the pics.

I don't mean to criticize a whole country, I just mean this seller has been posting these repro buckles for a long time (I used to buy them before I knew better), I'm sure they will pop back up shortly with more.
Aside from this very well known source, I'm not clear on identifying all the various fakes, I don't think I had previously seen 14mm of the style that you posted (meaning like the 16mm versions), the 14mm versions I've had were the other style, that are not a complete empty space between the U. But maybe there are multiple types, I don't know.
I would be concerned about anything coming out of Turkey, particularly showing a whole bunch of these NOS buckles in one photo. I know someone else said those were authentic, but I don't know myself.
There are a few people that have researched this topic extensively, I would want @CafeRacer to weigh in on those 14mm buckles you got from Turkey.

Oh no. Don't do that to me. Hahaha. I hope I didn't get burned on that one 馃槳

I'm a pretty studious fella, but keeping up with this stuff seems nearly impossible.

Another I was looking at, but so many mixed signals as to what's fugazi or not. 馃サ

that one looks good and of course the fact that it's paired with a UG strap increases confidence over a pile of loose buckles. It also depends on the source, how many they have for sale, if they keep popping up with more inventory as soon as this one is bought, etc
