“Plaque G” on a purported steel buckle is never a good sign.

Well, I cleaned it up a little and looking at it closely, I does say "Plaque G" and has an "AW" in a rectangle as well as "DEPOSE SWISS" . However, it is not yellow gold, it is probably white gold.

Plaqué G means gold plated in French.

I was doing some research on gold plating techniques, it was saying that brass was often plated with nickel before being plated with gold, I wonder if we could be looking at nickel?

I disagree ... Here are some genuine buckles. As you can see the stamped "acier inox", "depose" and "swiss" lines up and is identical. I have not seen any fake buckle with the such fine and clean print. Usually they have none and if the do, it is never crisp and clean.

"Here are some genuine buckles." ...and your evidence that they are genuine is what, exactly?

I have made my evidence quite clear. The buckles you see are from old threads apart from the last one. What is your evidence or proof that they are fakes ... exactly ??

A nice fake buckle from japan currently on the Bay ...

Japanese fake buckle
I’ve come across these quite frequently on different watches from Japan, which makes me think they may have been locally sourced and added by the importer back in the 60s/70s.

At $600 a pop, i'd say that is a very nice little earner ...
