Beautiful watch. Chrono sweep is also not right. Do they not try to sort out hands before auction ?

Why should they? That would not pay for them. The costs for that will hardly be covered by increased sales value.

really? I tend to think the opposite........the increase in sale price would more than offset the cost

The value of the watch is in the dial. People who want that watch want it because of the dial. I don't think that the winner and the underbidder will think "Oh I need to bid 500 less because the hands are wrong".

But it will stop some people bidding at all, for fear of not being able to find the replacement parts.

I think the point was that a simple fix like ensuring the hands match will maximise the potential bidding audience for this piece. The relatively low cost of this work will arguably be more than covered if the subsequent larger bidding pool pushes the hammer price higher, as it generally does. Seems like a no-brainier to me too.

As I said, I don't think so. We are talking about a watch most probably north of 10k. No one who is able and willing to pay that much for that watch will be scared by the mismatch of hands.
With the same argument, auction houses should clean and service a watch. My guess is that cleaning (not polishing) most of the watches will result in higher prices. They don't do it because it costs time and money. (Only for high end waches the wabi sabi makes it more a "barn find" and could be a plus.)

Finally back, and functioning perfectly, after what seemed like an endless wait.

Came out beautifully.
