Ultraman Fun or Blasphemy?

Personally, that would make me think twice.. If it was in the expected range, maybe. But outside the expected range and no details in extract, then I dunno. Is it an ultraman just because it has the correct hand?

Mine is in the expected range, has been authenticated by Omega, the Davidoff Bros., and others including Hodinkee, and it’s not mentioned in the archive extract because I ordered my extract before Omega themselves instituted the policy of placing this remark on extracts as well, and I wear the piece weekly so don’t want to send it in - but I will if ever decide to sell it. In the meantime, it needs to be noted what has been said here for any serious potential buyer to consider.

My updated Ultraman project, using an "Ultraman-spec" hand. 😉 don't ask me where I got it.

Can you please post an UV shot ?

Doesn’t react to UV, I remember you told me the original does react to UV.

That's exactly what I would like to see - how does it look under UV. For the sake of some research we're now doing with a couple of people.

Means u did a lot of traveling to show the watch ?
Who at omega autenticated it and if so why didn’t u get a new extract?

Hodinkee ??? Really??? Not really a reference for watch autentification

Sorry, what I meant to say is that the serial # falls within the range observed / considered to be acceptable, according to the authors of MWO and others, not DB. Omega *will* issue an extract without the comment mentioning the orange hand, like mine (which I have posted on another thread), which was obtained without sending the watch to Omega - a boutique manager submitted photos to the appropriate contact. I also have been informed they will add the comment if I sent the piece in, but just have not done that yet. Anyway, my point in posting in this thread in the first place was simply to say that creating frankenwatch versions of this piece or any others, intended to pass as more rare / more valuable examples, is blasphemy in my opinion.

Indeed. We had shared emails on the proper way to get mentions on archives being to go through the Museum. They share the same passion for vintage we do and are happy to recognize, upon inspection, correct ‘fitted with orange hand’ Ultraman Speedmasters. I try to avoid authentication as it’s really not my role in these dealings. In the meanwhile, if I can assist you in getting archives for your special watch, I will always do what I can to help.

Best regards,

Sacha

I have posted pictures of my Ultraman few days back in vintage forum. I was planning to stop by in December in Las Vegas at Omega to request an archive extract. I did not expect to send the watch to Switzerland for verification of orange hand. My understanding was that pictures are sufficient. Can someone please verify what the process is. Thank you.

Pictures aren't sufficient and it's much better so. The topic is difficult enough to leave any room for creativity.

I guess Omega may not have (or did not keep) records to back that Speedmaster number XYZ was issued in 1968 with orange hand. That is all I am looking for rather than verifying the correctness of orange hand in person. And yes with creativity orange hand may be duplicated easily but if it does not much the serial number on records it is not Ultraman.

So you will have to deal with an extract without any mention of the orange hand. Until you eventually change your mind.
