I never wear my 145.012-67, as the 105.012-66 CB gets the wrist time because I prefer the case. For fun I sourced a 321 sweep hand, and am thinking about having it painted and mounted on my 145.012-67 to make a poor man's Ultraman.

Is this a crazy idea to swap a sweep hand on a collector grade Speedy for shits and giggles? I am going to keep the original sweep of course, and am not going to try and sell as an Ultraman because the serial range is nowhere near. It would be for my own amusement...plus I think the orange sweep looks cool as hell.

It is just a sweep hand...or is it?

    Appreciate the thoughts.

I would understand, but I could not enjoy it myself knowing it's not correct, whenever I find out something about a watch I own that is not original I can't wear it anymore haha.

I like the idea. It's not going to ruin the watch, you could change the hand back in half an hour and they do look cool imo! Finding a long enough orange chrono hand might be tricky though?

I think the sweep hand I sourced is long enough...anyone know how long it should be? I need to measure it. It looks short, but then again hands look tiny when on their own.

I hear you. Where it becomes an area of grey for me is whether it is correct for the reference or not. I mean I would have no problem putting a genuine blueberry insert into a 1675 or hell, swapping out a faded insert...as I have done on my 16750.

Sad that I am even thinking of doing this...but I am getting bored with that reference.

I say do it.If you get bored of it just change it back. You will get more wrist time with the watch, which is a good thing.

Sounds like a bad idea, and the only reasonable thing to do would be to sell me the 145.012...:whistling:

I say go for it. Not like you're doing anything that can't be reversed.

All this possible hand changes really scares me. My understanding that these sweeps are friction fitted. Considering that you're dealing with a very delicate 50 +/- years old piece of metal I understand that these original sometimes chip or even break when removed. Yes/No?

I'll bet that Al is best to answer if it's ever happened to him. If so, then you got no shot :(

If you send me the tritium teardrop chrono hand from your 67 you do whatever you want.

I am with you on this....

I am trying to find a tritium chrono hand for my -71 and I am having a heck of a time. My alternative was to buy a orange chrono hand and do exactly what you are suggesting, at least until I can source a correct hand.

I have no problems making mods, so long as I have the original parts. If I don't have the original parts, then it does bug the heck out of me.

this mod is just the second hand.

my modded 3572, which has since been converted back. I am on the look out for a donor.

To be honest I had the same thought wrt my 145.012. :) Actually, I find the orange hand a very nice contrasting detail which gives to the watch a complete different and more aggressive look. Although not correct I would put it in the same league of a luminova chono hand. However, for the moment I decided not to do the change since I am not sure if I keep it.

Concerning the sizes, on MWO website are given with unprecedented detail http://www.moonwatchonly.com/omega-...atch-only-reviews/omega-speedmaster-ultraman/. What about using the replacement hand from the japanese speedmaster racing 2004? On ebay there are several of those. The color is probably not quite the same but maybe it is a good starting point.
