Hey guys,

I was looking at this tudor on eBay and noted to the seller that it may have been refinished in the past, as I have not been able to find a matte dial with a chapter ring.

the seller is adamant it is original and is indeed a matte dial.

Thoughts?

Can't tell about that one from the lousy pix, but 100% that the early ones had chapter ring dials. Mine below.

Very nice!

I think @jaspert was right on, the whiteness of the eBay dial looked suspect to me too. Yours is a lovely gold gilt @calalum

I steered clear. Tudor always seem to pop up and I'm a cautious fellow most of the time! Just going to bide my time and get one a good price 😀

Good idea. My first Tudor Snowflake off the bay turned out to be fake/franken. 🙁 I was clueless until much later and it has taken me ages and $$$ as a project watch to complete it.

Never trust a listing where the dial photos are the worst photos in the whole listing....

Sometimes gilt ages to fade to silver or white. Likewise, the glossy lacquer fades away to give matte appearance.
IMHO, with the pics/info available as it was, this was an honest specimen that ended up going at a fair price. If I had any acquisition funds available at present, I might have given it a shot...

Font is off-too large and boxy. Not even a good copy, thankfully!
