Can someone show us a picture of how it looked like in it's "teenage" years ? 馃榿
I'm just interested about that dial. Did it always have that texture or is it old age wear and tear ?

PS: Am I the only one that thinks of the Tudor BB when looking at this rolex crown ? 馃槣

Here's mine. Once dark black you can see it has turned a creamy chocolate. 馃榿

It is always cool when a watch can be placed in a specific time in history, and this watch is no exception. It was purchased at the Navy Exchange at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba on October 7, 1962...10 days before the start of the Cuban Missile Crisis! It was then worn for next 20+ years of Navy service by a Master Chief.

The original owner kept the papers with caseback sticker attached, as well as all correspondence from a 1989 service with Rolex New York...

I like this watch a lot, not because I would want to have it myself, but rather because of the cool history behind it. Very neat that you know the history so well. 馃榾

@cicindela - You are so full of shit you turned your watch brown! ::stirthepot:: 馃榿

That doesn't ruin my 'dibs' on that root beer, does it? 馃槣

I do too. I don't mind a watch that looks like it has lived a little... I just don't like "rode hard and put away wet." That's why I get out some dish soap and a nylon brush and scrub down my Seamaster 300 (and the Speedmaster I wore every day before that).

If the OP's watch were the one a few posts above, I would have been thinking, "hey, that's a cool Rolex."

The fluting on the bezel is quite similar to what Rolex is using today.
Granted this watch is beaten up but it is still a great looking design.

It's mostly due to the brand. Were it been a Certina or something. Few would have found it interesting. 馃槣

If that's really what you think, you haven't been paying attention...

Not a huge fan of gold on watches, but the way the dial has discoloured really compliments the gold elements.

Frankly I think this looks ace.

Wear it well. 馃榾

I agree - not a TT fan myself (or a DateJust fan to be honest) but this all fits very nicely.

It's a good quality watch, with a rare and interesting aspect. but let's not kid ourselves. An entry-level swiss (or non swiss) would not have gotten such high praise. Just saying. No disrespect intended.

Once again, you really need to read more before you post this kind of stuff. Although everyone here likes Omega, Rolex, etc. most here are true watch collectors, and big name brands are not the only thing that gets our attention.

Again if you have paid attention at all in the short time you have been here, you would know just how wrong you are...

I don't necessarily like all brown, chocolate, tropical whatchamacallit dials because some have aged in a way that just doesn't appeal to me, but I do like the OP's watch a lot because the dial has turned a lovely, even, shade of brown that I find very attractive. The story behind it really adds something special to the character of the watch too.

Tom, you don't have to like the watch...but neither do you have to insult it and everyone else who does.

Maybe a little biased because i'm a fan but i wouldn't call Certina an entry level swiss brand.

The perception about their watches was affected by his actual positioning inside the Swatch group but they made great watches and was a really prestigious brand.
