I was actually just watching this on TV. I like the story about how he drove to meet the stranger in the mall and paid him in cash for a new-in-box Daytona. It was 1995, but sounds familiar. 🙄

Interesting. I appreciate that the exposure to sun gave it some patina, but is it really true the watch would be worth less if it had been, say, a safe queen and kept in pristine condition? Hard to believe that.

There's no doubt that the value is associated with the darkened "Patrizzi" sub-dials. Would they have darkened in a safe? Who knows. Obviously, this particular piece looks a bit rough overall, so the appraiser may have been a bit forgiving on the condition.

I don’t the appraiser was saying that. He was saying that a “tropical” black dial watch was worth a lot more than a similarly aged white dial piece.

I suspect a truly mint condition piece would be worth more than them all.

But what do I know?

I know the market places a huge value on the patina of those Patrizzi sub-dials. but it does nothing for me aesthetically.
