I got mine from the NYC OB. It was shipped to them directly from Geneva. So for whatever that is worth. I can look at the warranty card I guess and see what it says

very interesting - when about was this purchase, time wise?

a YEAR ago I was surprised these watches were still sitting in Japanese OB stockrooms 2 years after release, and that the Japanese OBs were selling them to grey/intermediaries

I’ll be extra surprised to learn that three years after release not only did they not sell in Japan OBs, Japan OBs couldn’t even sell to intermediaries, and Omega went so far as to silently redistribute a Japan-only limited edition to other countries

since you bought yours directly from a NYC OB, clearly something happened!

Excellent pictures, and if I am not mistaken, the case is shape is slightly smaller on the Canopus Speedie. The Canopus case size is that of the new iteration of Speedmasters which are slightly slimmed down.

I was offered one years ago from the NY boutique as well. So, it is possible that OP's watch could have papers stamped from a boutique in the states.

Loving that Canopus Gold. Both beautiful watches. As someone mentioned, the Rising Sun looks alot bigger. I'm thinking it might be the camera angle as I believe they're both 42 mm.

Here is a comparison shot on my wrist

Did you purchase the watch from the OB, or merely purchase the watch with a card stamped by an OB?

Warranty cards are stamped by the OBs. There are grey dealers that sell watches with unstamped/undated cards. Or cards stamped by OBs. So, on its own, that the warranty card is stamped by an OB doesn’t tell you everything of relevance.

I suppose it is possible that Omega released 2020 of these watches EXCLUSIVELY to Japanese retailers in 2018, and that they were so unwanted and unsellable in Japan 3 years later that Omega itself reallocated those watches from Japan to the US despite being an Japan-only edition…

But that seems spectacularly speculative, and I’d want to have either:

(1) myself purchased the watch directly from an OB and have receipts of purchase from the OB’s register in edition to the warranty card, or

(2) have the OB on the warranty card provide assurances in writing that the watch was purchased in a fashion ensuring application of warranty

Not that (1) or (2) above are the only way a person might manage to get reliable, repeatable warranty service from Omega, but either (1) or (2) would for me be the way to close a loop of uncertainty that a watch made exclusively for the Japanese market in 2018 was somehow legitimately sold (for warranty purposes) by a U.S. OB in 2021

Mystery solved. I called the OB that was listed on the warranty card. I was very fortunate to actually talk with the SA that originally sold my watch. She confirmed the serial number and explained to me that they only recieved two of the Toyko 2020 watches and only after many requests to Omega. One was the Green Tach scale and the other the Red Tach scale which was my watch. She confirmed the 12/1/21 warranty date and told me I have the full five year warranty from that start date. She also mentioned that I have a very rare watch as only a very few made it to US OB's. I guess that's a win win for me. Not only do I own a limited run Speedmaster, but it's a bit of a unicorn as only a few were sold at a US OB. I always love to own a watch with a little back history on it, this one will difinitely be a keeper for me. And thank you " Cvalue 13" for prompting me to call the selling OB for warranty validation.

I hear you, hated to out the seller. But it didn't seem to bother the SA that it was resold. I have a feeling the seller has probably made alot of purchases from that OB.

I was just kidding around. I'm sure that they're in the clear. Omega seems to be a little more reasonable about resale than some other brands.

Plus, I imagine that this was a big purchase, and understandably, you wanted to be sure. The second hand market for these pieces is steep.

I’m genuinely glad it went that way, and genuinely shocked that Omega was sending these watches to the U.S. over 3 years after release!

Truly an interesting turn of events!

I have to admit I was a little concerned I bought a fake, after your post on the watches never being sold in US. Truly glad I was able to validate the purchase. I usually don't buy on the Gray market as it feeds the machine and hinders the average buyer that wants to buy the watch to wear. But with these 2020 Toyko releases it was the only way for me to obtain the watch.

I hear you, and it was a necessary evil with these pieces. I made my first ever Grey purchase to get one of these too.

Looks like the New Rising Sun is rounding out my wearable collection.

Love the 5 diget Sub, and what do you think about the zeniths?

I'm really enjoying the Zeniths. My quest for replacing my Daytona that I sold about 22 years ago lead me to the Zenith Chronomasters. Both are fantastic looking watches on the wrist and extremely comfortable.
My Rolex Sub was my only watch for the last 20 years. When I brought it in to the local AD for repair, it spurred my interest in all the new watches on the market. My collection immediately grew from one watch to five.

Finally got my Rising Sun sized today and wore it all day. This one may be my new favorite watch. I didn't realize it has 3 micro push adjustment, very nice. Not sure if it's the bracelet but it seems alot heavier than my 3861 Speedmaster.
