I noted on another thread that Rising Sun prices have increased hugely in the last month or two. I just looked on C24 and now there are only 5 watches under £6,500 (and 2 of them are pretty close to that figure). Only a couple of months ago there were plenty at c.£5,000. The question I have is, are we seeing the beginning of another LE stampede driving prices up to unattainable levels (along the lines of the Panda)?
A 2c opinion: As long as this keeps on happening (2T in the last year, 6T coming up), everything goes ‘up’.
Could also be that people are starting to pay attention to the watch now that the 2020 Olympics are actually going to happen soon.
Seamaster 300m Tokyos seem to be near the 6000 for a used one few on ebay etc, thats over a 1000 more than I payed only a few weeks ago.
It's a great watch and I'm glad the value is going up. Whoever inherits it from me better not sell it!
I think people are just asking more because the events are right around the corner and interest will dry up soon.
Not sure that's right because it appears that the supply from Japan is drying up. When they were at £5k there were loads for sale in Japan and now there are far fewer. I think it is a combination of the Olympics being round the corner and the uniqueness of the watch is being recognised.
I think that it may happening to all Tokyo olympics watches with 2020 stampped on them... they are all wrongly stampped!
Is it still anomaly when all of these watches are engraved with Tokyo 2020 (not taking into account that the Olympics are still named Tokyo 2020 even if it takes place in 2021)? I would not say it is an anomality...
The event therefore is an anomaly and the watches reflect this. In terms of the Rising Sun, its unique design, the Japanese connotations and the event anomaly all add up.
I could not agree more. One of the earlier posts said that the watches are wrongly stamped. They are not. Having the Olympic games postponed for a year is anomaly. Watches are all the same, no anomalies whatsoever. The event they celebrate is anomalous.
Time will tell (excuse the pun) but the unique design of the watch which makes its aesthetically appealing will differentiate it from all other Speedmasters out there. It is one to watch (another unintended pun!).
